Isn't it unconstitutional to make Canada the 51st state?

Why did Trump suggest this???!!!

Plus I don't think Canadians want our clown show politics and they want to keep their healthcare.

Isn't it unconstitutional to make Canada the 51st state?

Why would it be unconstitutional to add additional states? I mean there would need to be an agreement and vote, but nothing stops potential growth.

Why did Trump suggest this???!!!

Either as a joke or a sarcastic reply to Canada saying they can't afford the tariffs.

Plus I don't think Canadians want our clown show politics and they want to keep their healthcare.
Republicans (whom are currently in control) wouldn't want Canada as voters, as they would make the voters more liberal and less likely for them to get elected.
@SunshineGirl That's a weird question considering he's not even currently in office right now.

Someone actually has to be in office to do anything.

And you saw how he operated last time, so the answer is probably the same as the last time.

But I'd like to point out, that none of the Presidents (at least none in recent decades) have completed all their elections promises not even come close.

Election Promises are mostly just lies, no matter which politicians says them.

But Trump is there for his glory, and that will be his focus.

@sstronaut It is weird that he is interfering in other countries affairs rather than preparing for the transition.
@SunshineGirl Supposedly Canada is calling him to try to stop or change the tariffs that Trump wants to put in.

So he's not interfering with other countries affairs, but Canada is trying to manipulate the tariffs that he plans to put in

Canada is not a unified country. Many people in Ontario descended from the United Empire Loyalists and therefore have a real animosity towards the US. People in Alberta had a very different experience where many American families moved to Alberta for better opportunity and therefore have a much more positive view toward the US. The problem is that the US is such a gong show now who would want to be part of it. Not that Canada is any better but at least Canada is not out starting stupid wars all over the world like the US is.
Should annex both Canada and Mexico.

I have been saying this since I was born.

If all the Mexicans want to come here, fine. Put them to work BUT use the land. Together we can be strong. They can't seem to run their country anyways.
JoyfulSilence · 46-50, M
Not really. If Canada wanted to join, and Congress passed a law.

Texas was an independent nation before it was annexed by the the US. Yet Congress cut down its size a bit before admitting it. The other parts later became parts of other states.

I suspect Canada would have to be split into several states due to its size.

The funny thing is it would help liberals not conservatives, with all those new liberal states!

I suspect Quebec would resist and become independent.

Of course, so would Canadians, so it would never happen! And Britain and the rest of Europe would protest.

Trump is a dweeb.

I think everyone is missing the point about trump.... He is the magician, the one waving the magic wand around in intricate patterns, your eye following it... Meanwhile the other hand is reaching into you back pocket, unnoticed.

By throwing up these constant distractions you ignore the reality at your peril
ViciDraco · 41-45, M
I mean, it wouldn't be unconstitutional. It would have to be made a US territory first. I don't see Canada selling itself into that though. And if we went to war to take it we'd be killing a lot of the people that make Canada a good place
TheShanachie · 61-69, M
It’s more of his propaganda, however it sets up a troubling premise. It shouldn’t be anyone’s surprise that an authoritarian regime wants to forcibly take its neighboring countries by violent military means. The “they want to do this” falsehood is how this has started with other aggressive nations. Trump is taking cues from his heroes, notably Putin.
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
Meanwhile, all the northern blue states be like "Canada, please adopt us...🙏🥺"
Pretzel · 61-69, M
Actually it was a stroke of genius.

He figured that comment would make the Canadians build an double wall at their own expense

Smart, huh?
@Pretzel Instead, Canadians are investigating tariffs on US goods that flow north.

Canada is already examining tariffs on certain US items following Trump’s tariff threat

He thinks he is a "very Stable Genius"
@legalboxers A stable Genius wouldn't need to say they're stable

Just saying.
@sstronaut you know this.. I know this. His base which has the IQ of a pothole.....
Peaceandnamaste · 26-30, F
@legalboxers insult to potholes, potholes are actually smarter than the base.
Banter, nothing political. Yup!

Isn't it unconstitutional to make Canada the 51st state?
No.
Why did Trump suggest this?
My best guess is he's trying to play "bad cop", but it's hard to ever know why.
AngelUnforgiven · 51-55, F
@DDonde Thats exactly what i was saying. He's flexing his muscles. He says things in passing as if he's joking so that when he gets backlash he can always come back and say i was only kidding.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
It was probably a joke.
Unless we are planning a war I don't know about?
Nanoose · 61-69, M
I think it is because he is a Hoser at heart. A Hoser is an American that pretends to be friends with Canadians so they can drink their beer and steal gas from Canadian farm machinery with a rubber hose. It could also be a distraction from his ridiculous tariff plan. Cheers!
LordShadowfire · 46-50, MVIP
@Nanoose I never knew that's what that meant. Thanks.

Also, it wasn't a distraction. It was a direct response to Justin complaining about the tariffs. He literally said, "If you don't like it, you can join the US."
It’s legal. The process is spelled out in Article IV, Section 3 of the Constitution.
antonioioio · 70-79, M
Maybe he wants king Charles to head of the two countries 🤔
AngelUnforgiven · 51-55, F
Its just narcissism on display. He wants so badly to be a dictator. Imagine being the smallest person in the room. Putin & Kim Jung Un can have a person murdered or tortured at the snap of a finger. The orange overlord has to put that person on trial and wait for them to be sentenced. Hes the laughing stock and the weakest. So he will try to flex his muscles in any way that he can to seem scary.
@AngelUnforgiven you know you'd be re-educated in Guantanamo Bay since 2017 if he really was a dictator right
AngelUnforgiven · 51-55, F
@uikakarotuevegeta i didn't say that he was one i said that he wants to be one .

Insane clown posse 🤡
LordShadowfire · 46-50, MVIP
@Lilymoon I remember when they were a rap group. Now they're the government.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, MVIP
He's being a bully is why. Prime Minister Trudeau complained that if we implement the tariffs Trump is threatening, it's going to ruin the Canadian economy, and fat Donnie Dorko told him that if he doesn't like it, Canada can join the US.

@Quimliqer is he better than the French guy?
Quimliqer · 70-79, M
@legalboxers Pierre Poilievre?? Trudeau pales in comparison!!
pancakeslam · 41-45, M
I expect Canadians to meet him with a Maple Syrup Parade followed by burning an effigy of King Charles
tenente · 100+, M
not a constitutional scholar, but I would think it's unconstitutional to annex another sovereign country(?)
