The fine for not voting in australia

Is over $100. Thats for state and federal parliament. Which other countries have mandatory voting.
I almost wish we had such a law here. People really take having the vote for granted. Too many people have actually died to secure the vote for those who didn’t have it.
Elessar · 26-30, M
@bijouxbroussard I know something about that too 😅 feel free to take away that "almost"
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@bijouxbroussard In America, they make it as hard as possible to vote. Next, the Republican state legislatures will fine people for voting!
@Burnley123 I would not be surprised, if they tried to find a way to fine people for not voting GOP. 😅

Yes voting in Australia is enforced by law and they put on it a $$ penalty if you fail to vote.. But you don't have to vote.. All you need do is attend a voting location and have your name ticked off by the friendly local fascist.. Then you can just go to a booth and neatly fold your voting papers and walk over to the box and pop it in again giving another local fascist box attendant a smile.. Then you go out and go shopping.. Never having voted at all..
Adstar · 56-60, M
@hartfire If you fail to show up and vote in Australia you are sent a fine and you must pay it.. That is a dictatorial system of enforced voting.. So all involved in the voting process, be it law enforcement, or voting booth attendants ARE taking part in a fascism.. And thus are fascists..

And trusting anything published by the Australian Electoral Commission just shows extreme naivety.. The gullibility of some people astounds me. their trust in government is unbelievable..

And you supporting forced voting denying people their personal freedom to choose not to vote makes you a fascist also..
@Adstar Nope.
We the Australian people invented and voted for that form of democracy in our country.
Please try to understand that, with the exception of a few, most people who grow up in a system think it's the right one and don't like the systems of others.
We believe our system is the fairest and best currently in existence on this planet, even though it still does have a few problems that could be fixed.

Fascism is something very different. Examine the history and actions of Hitler, Mussolini, Mugabe, Pol Pot or any dictator, and you'll see how and why what we Aussies have is nothing like a dictatorship.

@hartfire
Nope.
[c=7700B2]We the Australian people[/c] invented and voted for that form of democracy in our country.
Don't speak as if you are the representative of the entire Australian nation.. Because you are NOT.. I am an Australian and clearly i do not agree with a dictatorial law Forcing people to vote against their will..

True Democracy is about establishing freedom and the respect for peoples personal decisions about how they live their lives and part of that is their will in regard to voting or NOT voting.. The fact that you force people to vote disqualify you from being someone who stands for real freedom..

You are a fascist you support a system that forces people to do something against their will.. That is the very definition of a fascist, someone who supports dictatorial enforced voting.. No need to reply, nothing you say is going to change my mind because i am absolutely correct in my assessment..

Brilliant law. It creates legitimacy.. It's mandatory to vote, obey road rules, file your taxes... And the evidence is clear that most people vote properly and support it. So if you disagree you're outvoted by the Australian public.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@SW-User No.. People cast a vote out of perceived self interest. A smart politician will break it down to a catch phrase the media can push. "They're takin' our jobs" for instance.. Almost no one will vote against being forced to vote. The truth is you can walk into a booth, or receive a postal ballot and return it blank, with only youe ID filled. Thats legal. You showed up..😷
SW-User
@whowasthatmaskedman it's a shame you're allowed to return the postal ballot blank
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@SW-User Not blank. You have to put your name and address to have your non vote marked off. But most do vote for something😷
I don’t see the point on voting, the elections are stolen or rigged. If the elections are legit. Then we must be pretty stupid.
@walabby don’t worry. You’ll learn!
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@AwakeningConfession221122 Sorry.. That has not been my experience. You might actually expect me to be a Liberal voter from my life choices.. But the poor quality of Liberal candidtates and the sheer bloodymindedness of their policies to favour those who already have wealth and privilege show me tey dont understand that keeping any group poor only makes them angry and desperate and (most important) more expensive to deal with that if you gave them what the needed in the first place.😷
this is what your lover Dan supports. Do you really want this in society?because I sure bloody don’t.@whowasthatmaskedman
I didn’t vote till I was in my late 20s. The fine is not really enforced. There are many reasons you can tick for not voting here.
LandOfOz · 61-69, M
@Notladylike it is enforced because i got done recently. My reason being i didnt realise it was voting day. I knew it was coming up just not so soon. I rarely watch mainstream media because im not interested
@LandOfOz You get the letters sure but nothing happens if you don’t pay them and you get an opportunity to respond via a prepaid envelope. That’s how it used to be anyway but sorry to hear if you are stuck with a fine.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
Here in the US some states are doing their damnedest to STOP people from voting. Well, stop the "wrong" people, anyway.
@ChipmunkErnie Exactly. That’s how you know voting is important—some people are trying to control and prevent it. If voting were compulsory they’d have a tough time with that, although they’d probably present that law as an “attack on your freedom" and some folks would buy it.
I usually pay the fine..
labor lib greens are all the same douches..
smileylovesgaming · 31-35, F
I don't know about the rest of America. But here if u get your driver license u are put on a jury duty list. Let me tell u that sucks ass.

I heard from my mom if u vote for any government stuff u are put on the jury duty in the Tulsa Court. That is like a hour drive for us I never voted for anything
helenS · 36-40, F
Voting is compulsory in Belgium.
@BeefySenpie That's what you need? I'll give you a chocolate.
@thewindupbirdchronicles Guylian please and thanks. I’ll expect a box or seven in the mail
@BeefySenpie I might give you a QR code, if it exists for free chocolate..
KiwiBird · 36-40, F
Not 100% correct. You have to get your name crossed off, but you do not have to actually mark the ballot paper(s).
LandOfOz · 61-69, M
@KiwiBird so its a revenue raiser in that case
KiwiBird · 36-40, F
@LandOfOz Probably not. Would cost more in administration to collect the fines considering a half decent excuse will get you off with a warning.
th3r0n · 41-45, M
There was a much higher penalty when not enough people voted in the US

Biden had enough fake votes to win and destroyed our economy
@th3r0n I know you are joking, but there are actually people that buy into trump's stupid conspiracy theories.
alan20 · M
Surprised to hear that! I don't know of any. It seems like an invasion of personal liberty.
I never heard of such a thing .. in America you vote for whoever you want; if you want, but nobody forces you
And Bugs Bunny hasn't won an election down there, crazy.
LandOfOz · 61-69, M
@checkoutanytime id vote for Bugsy
Whodunnit · M
I can't believe voting is mandatory 🙄
LandOfOz · 61-69, M
@Whodunnit it is here
Unlearn · 41-45, M
Oh wow... it's not mandatory over here.
That is…bizarre.
SW-User
We should definitely do this here in the UK,
I had these idiots tell me not my Prime minister,
I asked them did you vote in the last General election,
They all said no. 🤦‍♂️
Differently, is that not the state solidifying its validity?
Really? I seen to remember about 30 years ago I was told it was around 10$. 100 seems pretty stiff
LandOfOz · 61-69, M
@ImperialAerosolKidFromEP most of that $100 is victims of crime levee which is included to get the most out of you
Justenjoyit · 56-60, M
Not where I live
