How do you feel about it being compulsory?

@SW-User I think voting is an ethical obligation if you live in a free country. Not voting means disregarding the fate of the republic, disregarding the political space it creates; it's bad citizenship, it's a result of assuming the role of a willing slave. It's a disgrace.
Making it mandatory does not help, people who are forced to vote will vote for an anti-republican party, as a sick sort of protest. Those who don't vote are enemies of the republic anyway, or at least they don't give a sh*t. Consumerism at its worst.

@helenS I don't like any candidate in Canada right now. One has been resting on his father's name for many years (while being attractive), and I can't vote Conservative. To not vote, in a way, is the only voice I have when it comes to voting.

@helenS Not really. I am a person who is known to write members of parliament. God help them if they listen to me. But I am not going to vote for someone that is the one of less 'evil'. That would be mind-numbing. I'm happy to pick my nails, write up a storm, and disregard their validation process.

I, also, believe, maybe one day, if politicians actually listen and actually care, they might question why they have a majority government with only 15% of vote and be honest with themselves, I don't connect with the average person?

If you make it mandatory, you remove that kind of insight (my opinion)
