Wasn't there the famous story in Luke of Mary and Joseph finding the 12 year old Jesus wowing all the priests with his intelligence in the Temple...?
TheWildEcho · 56-60, M
@Bumbles yes there is, try reading the gospels
Adstar · 56-60, M
@TheWildEcho From memmory that incident is covered in the gospel of Mark.. let me look..
Correction it is in the Gospel of Luke chapter 2::
(Luke 2:42-52) "And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast. {43} And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it. {44} But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day’s journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance. {45} And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him. {46} And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions. {47} And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers. {48} And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing. {49} And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father’s business? {50} And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them. {51} And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart. {52} And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man."

Tell me you would listen to a teenager lecturing you on how to live your life like he has infinite wisdom and power, and that you actually would listen and change yourself. Yeah, try and say you would, and I will bring any 14-year-old straight over to lecture you right now!
God just like our father's had to wait for Jesus as well as you and I to mature before our words or wisdom made any sense. There there's your answer.

@WillaKissing Not sure that would mean we wouldn’t want to know the origins of his philosophy.
WillaKissing · 56-60
@Bumbles You already know his origins when it comes to Jesus, read the bible. But a standard teenager forget it when it comes to what their origins are.
Bumbles · 51-55, M
@WillaKissing I guess have a curiosity about the life of the Christ that others don’t.

He was rumoured to have been studying with the mystics in Asia as a teen

@BritishFailedAesthetic it can’t be proven as a lie
@SW-User But we know from God's word Jesus did not learn from mystics.
Bumbles · 51-55, M
@SW-User Ooh, I like that. Buddha was born 500 years earlier and there were many other religious traditions much closer from India. Islam would not appear for another 500 years.
Because God's word deemed it unnecessary to record those years. Why?
@Bumbles There are a number of topics to be open minded about- I love astronomy and wine. The debate about how new movies have gone, etc.
But God's word is God's word.
But God's word is God's word.
Bumbles · 51-55, M
@BritishFailedAesthetic That’s why I asked specifically about religion. It seems not having robust curiosity is part of the appeal. That is, absolutely security. As you use a circular argument “Gods word is Gods word” to illustrate the point.
@Bumbles I will be open minded on a ton of topics and this is what surprises my secular family and friends- I will listen to what God's word says.

The scriptures cover what they need to cover in relation to the message / teachings of Jesus and His important acts.. So we get what we NEED rather then getting everything we WANT..

The non canonical Gospel of Thomas is discussed in the podcast below.

@BlueSkyKing Yeah, that's what I was talking about. I called it the gospel of Jesus, which was inaccurate. Thank you.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
Interestingly enough, there's a book that is considered non-canonical, called the Infancy Gospel of Thomas. It includes the time that adolescent Jesus accidentally killed one of the neighbor kids, and had to bring him back to life.

@LordShadowfire for reals?
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@Bumbles I swear to... well, whoever. Look it up, it's a hoot.
