If you were forced to (conscription, or national service).

Or voluntarily (as a conscious career choice).

Military are agents of government and since we don't trust governments we would feel uncomfortable about being in the military and it would also be incompatible with our lack of trust in the executive branch of government.

With your expressed opinion, it would probably best to ask this question again when there is a genuine military threat to you and your family where someone is determined to grab all you consider worthwhile (even your children) for themselves with guns in their hands. I once held completely pacifist views and even now have severe reservations about the military mind, but as I get older I appreciate a lot more what my father and his contemporaries did to make sure I could grow up in peace and freedom.
I did..............and I didn't feel uncomfortable. That is a flimsy excuse for why some don't join....and you evidently.....but to all the vets I know.......we were proud to have served.

i think the draft should be brought back . think of trumps kids serving would be a good thing. or the members of congress had to have there children serve in war time.. it would slow down us jumping into a new war into the future .. however some will have bone spurs ..

I'm slightly too old and I'd be a pretty useless soldier.

I would fight if my country was invaded but otherwise definitely not.

@Burnley123 45's not too old, some folk who fought in Vietnam were WW2 vets

I don't think it's my path tbh. I did consider it when I saw what was happening in Ukraine but I'm like 31 so probably not soldier training material 😅

We have conscription. I did 2 years of National Service in a helicopter squadron and go back every year for at least two weeks.
HumanEarth · F
Yes I tried and wanted to make it a career, but my medical background kept me from joining
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
No, not military. I did strongly consider joining the peace corp as a young adult. Had there been mandatory national service, I would have gone that route gladly.
braveheart21 · 61-69, M

I tried when I was 18 and was rejected on due to my health issues. But I would serve in the Dad's Army division if needed.
mksworld · 46-50, C
How many of you are prepared to become paid agents of your own country's government? That's what military people are.
exexec · 70-79, C
Yes. I tried. I was in ROTC and then destroyed my knee playing football. The Army rejected me.
Yeahhh if there is a good reason or I’m forced
