I think that's an image created in the 1950s, when most cars weren't air conditioned and people made hand signals before turning or stopping. Even cooler with shirtsleeve rolled up, a tattoo, and a pack of Lucky Strike or Camel cigarettes rolled into your shirt sleeve.

Left window down, arm resting on the window sill, slightly out of the car, right hand on the steering wheel. Some even had ting steering knobs to make steering and turning with one hand easier.

My brother liked doing that. (Ever since he went to a science fair they tested his reflexes and said had the reflexes of a formula1 driver) Unfortunately his car was a shit box. And the steering wheel came off at 100km an hour... Luckily nobody was hurt, the woman he was showing off for never talked to him again. 🤣

I do that as I have one hand on the gear lever. I am yet to shift to auto shift.

I do this. Had no idea this was an aphrodisiac. Ill do it harder next time.
