What was the most terrifying animal you encountered?

A few weeks ago, a few workers in nearby plantation complained of wild fowls squealing and clamouring. Next time it happened, a couple of us went to investigate. It was like a battlefield. The wild flows were flying around, producing loud noises in a certain area. As we approached, we noticed a big king cobra standing up almost to a man's height. It was hissing and posturing. The ladies who came with us shrieked in fear and ran.
They refused to work near that location for a month.

It was a scary sight, but I must say that it was also magnificent. It is a majestic animal.

Bear on a trail in the mountains.
Another time while on a vacation hearing a cougar in the bushes growling at us.

@Renkon No the hub was with me.
I just stay out of their way from a distance.
Renkon · 41-45, M
@Ynotisay That seems the wise thing to do.

@Renkon If you've never seen one in the wild I hope that happens for you. It's always kind of a thrill.
A couple of coyote/wolf hybrids charged me as I was walking my 14 year old dog one evening.
@Renkon I ran straight at them screaming and waving my arms. They turned and ran away.

@BizSuitStacy Feline breeds can sense fear and hesitation. May be that's a reason they attack mostly children and women.
@Renkon these were canine, and probably could tell my dog was old and an easy target.

In the wild? Probably a tick. 😅

A huge Grizzly up in the Northwest Territories Canada. Was 12 feet tall on its hind legs. Popped up out of the brush looking at us about 10 feet away.
Renkon · 41-45, M
@icedsky 12 feet?! wow! What do you do? Run or stand still? Climbing trees is not an option, I believe.
icedsky · 51-55, M
@Renkon It went away on it's own. Just peeking to see if we were edible.

Once when I was a kid, I went to walk up the stairs to my bedroom. I saw something black curled up on the steps, and at first thought it was a belt. Then it moved.

The next thing I knew, I was standing on the sofa across from the staircase. I got a broom and herded the snake out the front door. I grabbed the shotgun, but by the time I got out, it was gone.
DunningKruger · 61-69, M
@Renkon It was probably a western rat snake. They're harmless, but can grow huge.
Renkon · 41-45, M
@DunningKruger Hmm. Rats snakes are common in our place. They are generally harmless and to an extend controls the rat population.
DunningKruger · 61-69, M
@Renkon Yes. Scared me pretty bad at the time, though.

The biggest spider I have ever seen in Australia. It was the size of a horse
Big nasty city rats
Renkon · 41-45, M
@FreeSpirit1 Rats? They can spread some serious sickness. Do you fear them?
WintaTheAngle · 41-45, M
A camel spider. The memory gives me shivers.
Renkon · 41-45, M
@WintaTheAngle Venomous?
WintaTheAngle · 41-45, M
@Renkon Not venomous but between the size of their jaws and they fact the inject stomach acid to everything they bite…its not a good idea to get bitten by it.
Renkon · 41-45, M
@WintaTheAngle Agree. Not a good idea at all.
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
My first encounter was a Coastal Taipan (King brown as we call it, #3 most venomous in the world I think.) slithered across my bare feet when I was 6.
Renkon · 41-45, M
@Thevy29 That was close. Most snake only bite when they feel threatened.
TexChik · F
Copperheads! Those things hide in plain sight. In the leaves, they are almost impossible to spot.
Renkon · 41-45, M
@TexChik That's true. And they are very reactive.

A Coy Dog the size of a German Shepatd
Renkon · 41-45, M
@HoraceGreenley Are Coy Dogs dangerous?
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
@Renkon
I don't know. This one was twice the size of your average coyote. It was a dark grey. Coyotes don't have a solid, one color coat.

It was freaky
Nearing a ton of gator. But he was just sunning himself and didn't mind me getting in close for eye photos.

A raccoon.

It was a couple of nights after a bunch of them broke into the chicken run and ate all of our chickens. I went out back to have my evening piss on the fence (we have coyotes, so it's not weird), and this fatass raccoon was sitting on the top of the fence, just staring at me.

I know what some of you are thinking. Raccoons are cute. But again, they had just broken into the chicken run and eaten all of our chickens. On top of that, a full grown raccoon can take a chunk out of a human being a square inch in size.

As it turns out, I did exactly what you're supposed to do when you encounter a raccoon. I was standing in front of the motion sensor light, so the light was flashing on and off, and I screamed at the raccoon without moving toward it. Even so, the raccoon didn't run. He casually hopped off the fence and sauntered off into the woods, just to let me know he wasn't scared.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@Renkon They aren't afraid of humans, and if you approach them, they will attack. But if you make yourself big and loud with flashing lights, they will leave you alone.
Renkon · 41-45, M
@LordShadowfire That is a good information to have. Honestly they look harmless in general.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@Renkon I know, right? They're actually adorable. Just don't mess with them.
sounds beautiful
Renkon · 41-45, M
@deathfairy Not afraid of Cobras? Thats interesting.
Lilnonames · F
A very big angry raccoon. Asi ran down hillside steps at night I came around a corner fast scaring this big raccoon who jump from a tree. I stopped in my tracks as it's hair stood on end as it hunched and hissed. I kept my head and I talked. I say hey I scare u u scare me. U go your way I go mine, he looked at me and slowly started backing up as I did the same. We both went our ways
