How awkward is it for a job post to ask YOU to include YOUR salary requirement for the job?

Heading over to google, don't know how to put this in a cover letter.

* the job post specifically asks for resume, cover letter and salary requirement to be sent to them😬

I've been to interviews where they have said, how much money do you want? I usually say i want what the job is worth to you but i can't put a figure on it as i don't know the financial aspects of what you require to employ me. I am confident that you are a fair and reasonable employer so i'm sure you'll come up with the right figure.

@SW-User 🙄 I'm not tryna make 4 dollars an hour man
SW-User
@iamnikki Yeah i just assume they won't rip us off if we tell them to pay us what we're worth
SW-User
@Vivaci How about "see attached sheet for more details" lol?
JollyRoger · 70-79, M
They should post their salary offer. Otherwise, they are looking for slave labor and are not interested in the skills or value the applicant can bring to their business.

I usually throw it back on them and ask what the budget window it is that was set for the position, because they all budget for staff.
Sometimes it’s a game of bluff.
But they’re sometimes asking that to see if you’re within the invisible pay window
SW-User
Put "salary negotiable"
SW-User
@iamnikki Well, you're not saying that you'll work 4 less than $12/hr, but you're not asking for TOO much.
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@SW-User I put 4 dollars more than what I make now
SW-User
@iamnikki Well I hope you get the job.
I don't know why this question is even included. It's not like they are going to listen if you say 10,000 an hour. Or even if you said 1 dollar an hour which would be illegal.

@canusernamebemyusername if you pitch too high, you dont get an interview. If you pitch too low, they get you dirt cheap, which is basically why they're doing this.
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@firefall yea, I put 4 dollars more than what I make, so even if I get less than that, I'll still be happy
firefall · 61-69, M
@iamnikki thats a good response
Fauxmyope2 · 31-35, F
I was told in college and by my dad to never bring that up when seeking a job. That should only be brought up after the job is offered.
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@Fauxmyope2 Like I stated above, the post specifically said to add it
Fauxmyope2 · 31-35, F
@iamnikki You have to do what they require. It seems strange on their part.

The first rule of negotiation is always let the other party make the first offer.
SW-User
@RedBaron exactly
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@RedBaron but it specifically says to include it. I put 4 dollars more than what I make now
RedBaron · M
@iamnikki I would put "negotiable."
Google for the salary for the title you have applied for and put in a number that closely matches...in the brackets write (negotiable)
SW-User
Put the highest number you could think of and hope for the best
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@SW-User lol. I'm gonna but 4 dollars an hour more than what I make. 🤞
SW-User
@iamnikki Sounds like you need a new boss lol
Gusman · 61-69, M
That happened to me last week.
Their salary range was $21 - $29 hour.
At the interview they asked me what hourly rate I would like.
I said I would be happy with $25 hour.
I got the job
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@Gusman but that's reasonable though, it's in the middle. And Congrats
Gusman · 61-69, M
@iamnikki Thank you.
Reasonable yes. Not undervaluing myself, not over valuing myself, just right.
jeancolby · 31-35, F
Ask for the going rate.
Always say industry standard rate as a minimum...
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
It’s common
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@MrBrownstone I'm not saying it's uncommon, it's just awkward for me
Lukeman · M
I would leave it blank.
FCNantes · 22-25, M
I fkn hate that!!! Doesn't exactly factor in those who have been out of work for decades.
firefall · 61-69, M
they want to see how low you'll go, i.e. how desparate you are. I consider it a bad sign usually, that this is an employer who doesnt give a shit about their employees.
