How awkward is it for a job post to ask YOU to include YOUR salary requirement for the job?

Heading over to google, don't know how to put this in a cover letter.

I've been to interviews where they have said, how much money do you want? I usually say i want what the job is worth to you but i can't put a figure on it as i don't know the financial aspects of what you require to employ me. I am confident that you are a fair and reasonable employer so i'm sure you'll come up with the right figure.
