How important are political views to you? [I Question]

Would you refuse to associate or even acknowledge someone with political opinions that don't coincide with your own?
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
No, not at all.

To me, your opinion is your opinion and you have every right to have it.

That doesn't mean I agree, and if you choose to try and impose said opinion on me, and shame me for not agreeing, well then we may have words.

But otherwise, believe what you wish. I won't hold you in contempt.

Similar core values are important if you're in a romantic relationship, not really with friends. With friends you can just steer clear of politics.

I have always been able to set my political views to one side IRL. My son is now a liberal, and my daughter-in-law, and I know that my brother is a liberal, as is his partner. I really love my family. I would never try to make them uncomfortable by forcing my opinions on them.

I have two or three or four friends here who are liberals, and they are kind, and funny, and really sweet people...(for the most part! 🤣).

I don't mind discussions of that nature providing it is in a respectful manner . I am open to different thoughts and ideas .

@Notanymore I have a cousin who has never voted. I don't blame her one bit. As for myself, I am disgusted with both parties.
Notanymore · 36-40, M
@SW-User i think I should be president
SW-User
@Notanymore You probably couldn't do worse than what we have seen for so-called 'leadership' in the past 20 years.
Ceinwyn · 26-30, F
I’d rather not know about them.
tindrummer · M
very: I try to avoid trumpers in real life as much as possible
Notanymore · 36-40, M
@tindrummer maybe the common ground is beyond politics?
tindrummer · M
@Notanymore in this instance it just doesn't work for me but I admire your attempts to promote civil discourse 😊
Notanymore · 36-40, M
@tindrummer I'm just trying to understand it honestly.

I might, depending on what those views are. My family have beliefs that I would not tolerate from friends. At least, I have finally persuaded them to keep it to themselves when in my house.

Over the last few years, I believe that politics and political views have overcome society. Politics should be something that is on the back burner not always at the forefront. We've become obsessed with it.

For me personally, they are not important. I have my own beliefs, but I don't label myself with my beliefs. I think that that is where we went wrong. We've become our political beliefs, and that is what I believe has made us so toxic because it creates an extreme which we're seeing. These days one can either be extreme right or extreme left and anyone else is pushed out a ten-story window.

Way too often people think political views matter more than even friendship.
I tire of people acting like I am a bad person for not seeing things the way
they do.
Had a friend of ten years decide we couldn't be friends anymore because I explained
how it was here for me with all the covid and face mask stuff going on.
It's not going to be the same for all of us...views, experiences, etc...
Notanymore · 36-40, M
@SW-User very sad
SW-User
@Notanymore Yes, it is. When people say they thought you were a decent person but see differently, that is just crappy. Anyone who truly knows me, knows my heart.
Notanymore · 36-40, M
@SW-User yeah......people seem to be brainwashed these days.
MasterofNone · 26-30, M
Not at all. However, I prefer to be with liberals NOT because of their political views but there is a correlation between people who are like minded (for me) and people who support Liberal political parties.

Although, when politics comes up for discussion, I am arguing instead of agreeing with them LOL
SW-User
@MasterofNone I have been known to argue with both sides.
MasterofNone · 26-30, M
@SW-User Exactly!
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
Political views are like @ssholes. They shouldn't be shown in public.
Some political views are anathema to me, I admit. For example, I would avoid like bubonic plague anyone who still supports Donald Trump. 🙁
Notanymore · 36-40, M
@bijouxbroussard he's also been awarded and highly touted by black communities across the USA. Don't get me wrong, I think the guy is a slime, but I believe he's a psychopath, who just says or does what benefits himself at all times. Pretty much like any politician.
@Notanymore In later years, he revealed himself to not be a friend. Even Jesse Jackson, who once praised him, admitted he’d made a mistake. Michael Steele, former head of the RNC and first African American to hold the position, said that “Donald Trump is a divisive factor and has taken the GOP in nationalist, racist direction”. On the other hand, both Thom Robb and David Duke, current and former heads of the KKK, solidly endorsed Trump.
Notanymore · 36-40, M
@bijouxbroussard of course they do. And in my opinion, all of those men mentioned are in the same position as trump, as self promoting psychopaths.
Jonjdw · 46-50, M
No they are not very important to me. But I might try to stay away from someone who has very strong opinion even if I agree with it.
No. I hate that. It’s childish. We can agree to disagree.
@NoGamesTolerated But.. they are still very important to me!
Bados · 100+, M
I dont have much choice in my life. I am surrounded by socialists and communists
KuroNeko · 41-45, F
I just don't want to talk about them all the time. 🤷‍♀️
GuiltyPleasures · 56-60, M
I dont really want to associate with people who think i should hand over half my paycheck to the government, so they can give my money to people who refuse to work.

Potentially, yes.
I don't think of them as important, until someone comes at me w/the view that "it's ok when we do it"
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
Depends on the political view. General party vs party stuff I can get over for the most part. People who actively believe that we need to segregate the races, I would not associate with. As an example.

@MarmeeMarch you're going to have a long wait because it's VERY unlikely that'll ever happen

@MarmeeMarch I can wait and we'll see. Obviously anything can happen but I fervently hope you're wrong.
