What word should be deleted from the English language and why?

SW-User
Race

We are all humans....can't we just focus on that instead of color?
GunSmoke9 · 56-60, M
@SW-User So why do you want to delete a word with many meanings?
SW-User
@GunSmoke9 Just to irk you, GunSmoke! 🤣🤣
GunSmoke9 · 56-60, M
@SW-User Yeah, I'm sure.
FurryFace · 61-69, M
words with silent letters should be done away with and replaced with letters that make sense
pennynoodles · 56-60, F
I teach......I'd be fine with it 😁

PikachuTrainer · 26-30, M
@FurryFace I like the challenge, silent letters? No problemo, I'll learn how to spell Pterodactyl at some point lol
The "N" word... it wasn't "cool" then - and it's not cool now. I don't need to hear it!!!
pennynoodles · 56-60, F
It is deeply offensive. I will remove it.@HootyTheNightOwl
What we call the “n” word, in any form, by anyone. It’s a term of hatred and can’t be magically changed into anything else. Trying to “claim” it only makes it a term of “self-hatred”. 😒
pennynoodles · 56-60, F
polyandrym66 · 70-79, M
@bijouxbroussard I totally agree..
This is the best answer here...
HerKing · 61-69, M
I take it you mean English as in the UK not American? America has lots of words that they just invent on a whim, they also take most of the vowels out of many words and misspell many others.
HerKing · 61-69, M
@PikachuTrainer The point is why would an American ask someone who is a UK citizen how long it took them to learn English...
PikachuTrainer · 26-30, M
@HerKing Beats me.
@HerKing They’re dumb. Sorry. I’m annoyed when people from the U.S. “correct” UK spelling because of their ignorance about differences. I know both spellings are accepted, but the language did originate in the UK.
Peapod · 61-69, F
I know it's sort of modern slang, but it gets on my nerves.
prolly

adverbINFORMAL
probably
@Peapod I’ve done that, mostly when I’m teasing a friend.
Along the same lines:
Mebbe not
I dunno
😉
Peapod · 61-69, F
@bijouxbroussard, hee hee...I know I use silly words too when I am teasing my friends.

I like the answer about all those words with letters that are silent or don't phonetically sound out. My mother always said the hardest language to learn is English. I can believe it.
FreeSpirit1 · 51-55, F
Bae, because its fucking stupid.🤣
pennynoodles · 56-60, F
OH yes, I had looked it up. It sounds Scottish. @FreeSpirit1
PikachuTrainer · 26-30, M
@pennynoodles it is actually Danish for poop.
Carazaa · F
@PikachuTrainer And Swedish baj
SW-User
xylophone. There's no damn z at the beginning of the word.
pennynoodles · 56-60, F
Nah, everyone puts kisses nowadays.
JoyfulSilence · 46-50, M
@pennynoodles I do it on here at times.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
@SW-User it's spelled like zylophone? 😳 I had no idea...
JoyfulSilence · 46-50, M
Deleted.

Then nobody could delete more words because there would be no way to give that order!

English is a living language. Words only die from lack of use. We are not the French!
pennynoodles · 56-60, F
Now the word 'nakey' should be introduced to the dictionary. @JoyfulSilence
JoyfulSilence · 46-50, M
@pennynoodles

I cannot wait to get home so I can get naked.
pennynoodles · 56-60, F
Okay
Nimbus · M
Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis.

Most people can't pronounce it and also people are jealous when you use it in Scrabble.
Nimbus · M
@pennynoodles I dunno.
People see it and give up! :)
pennynoodles · 56-60, F
I know what the letters are all worth individually but then you'd have the added trouble of triple letters, triple words etc. I give up.
GunSmoke9 · 56-60, M
@Nimbus I'm lazy, what's it mean?
MarkA · 56-60, M
Politician.
We have a perfectly reasonable alternative......IDIOT
MarkA · 56-60, M
To be fair, that's 3 words! Lol.
How about 'embarrassment'
pennynoodles · 56-60, F
Ha ha, I'm not disagreeing with either of you.
MarkA · 56-60, M
You are obvs a highly intelligent lady! 😁
SW-User
No word should ever be deleted form the dictionary.
pennynoodles · 56-60, F
others seem to disagree with you. @SW-User
Smokey · 46-50, M
Racism - self explanatory
pennynoodles · 56-60, F
I think that if we banned the word, it would still happen. @Smokey
Smokey · 46-50, M
pentacorn · F
dookie

i just hate it.
pennynoodles · 56-60, F

pentacorn · F

pennynoodles · 56-60, F
I consider myself blessed.
Firestarter · 26-30, F
Retarded- self explanatory
PikachuTrainer · 26-30, M
@Firestarter So how would we refer to something that is being Retarded, say a Bomb? Or a Car?
TeresaRudolph71 · 51-55, F
@Firestarter That's what I was going to say! I find that word very offensive.
Harriet03 · 41-45, F
CLOSED! 🍷
pennynoodles · 56-60, F
LOLOLOL love it.@Harriet03
Harriet03 · 41-45, F
@pennynoodles FRIGHTENING sign! 😱
pennynoodles · 56-60, F
Too offensive for you? 😁@Pinkstarburst
curiosi · 61-69, F
Whilst-----------It's WHILE adding a "t" just makes you look stupid and lazy.
pennynoodles · 56-60, F
I'll bear that in mind....@curiosi
SW-User
hedgehog 🦔

I always have a hard time spelling it
pennynoodles · 56-60, F
Aw no, I cant allow that one, I love the little creatures and their numbers are in decline as it it. If we ban that word, they may be forgotten about altogether 😢@SW-User
SW-User
@pennynoodles Nooo I love them too. Just give them another name like Sonic or something
pennynoodles · 56-60, F
Can you spell prickly pig?@SW-User
Adaydreambeliever · 56-60, F
I worry we are losing words, words people no longer use.. so I don't want to delete any more :)

HerKing · 61-69, M
"like' used as punctuation...and 'of' used instead of have and 've.
pennynoodles · 56-60, F
You have found one of my bug-bears. Even fully-grown people use that word 'like' incorrectly. grrrrrr@HerKing
SailingSlow · 61-69, M
No - as a starting point
SailingSlow · 61-69, M
How about - go on tell me more?
pennynoodles · 56-60, F
Hmmmm, that might not work in this scenario. I have a big bar of Cadbury's Chocolate in the fridge. You ask If you can have some. I reply, " go on tell me more." Nah, that simply would not work! 😁
SailingSlow · 61-69, M
[@ in this instance it would have slowed you down ? - mission accomplished? @pennynoodles
mrmoose · 70-79, M

pennynoodles · 56-60, F
We don't really use that term over here; I have always thought of it as being an American term.
pennynoodles · 56-60, F
Awesome is as annoying as the new way that people say, "It's so SO amazing." Why do they have to say the word 'so' twice as if to exaggerate it. grrrrr@pennynoodles
Diarrhoea-it's blood difficult to spell
"'Homophobia'". It's fake news
MethDozer · M
Pansexual, bisexual already had it covered.
MethDozer · M
@SW-User Same thing
MethDozer · M
@Straylight Fail to see a real distinction there.
MethDozer · M
@bijouxbroussard You're generation tried to destroy labels. New generation is all about creating as many as they can.

sciguy18 · M
@sspec If you delete “sorry”, Canadians would be at a loss.
@sciguy18 Sorry seems to be the hardest word. 😏
