I take it you mean English as in the UK not American? America has lots of words that they just invent on a whim, they also take most of the vowels out of many words and misspell many others.

@HerKing it is English whether it be British or American.

Oh I don't mind either. I have actually heard some words today from Americans that I had not heard before and yet they are in my online dictionary. I'm always open to a bit of education, whether it has come from here or across the pond. @HerKing

@PikachuTrainer No such language as British. Doesn't exist. It's either English or it isn't.

e.g. Aluminium (English)

Aluminum (American)

Favourite (English)

Favorite (American)

Aeroplane (English)
Airplane (American)..we don't say airdynamics

@HerKing British is actually the group of countries in the British isles, and it actually is, either referred to as British English, as is true with American English, depending on whether it comes from Britain or America.
@HerKing The thing about “American English” (as some call it) is that many of its words and terms have been contributed by other immigrants to the U.S. and the Natives here—not only the UK. 🙂

@PikachuTrainer Britain is geography..English is the language.
HerKing · 61-69, M
@bijouxbroussard Oh I know, but that stops it being English.
@HerKing It’s more of a dialect with its roots in English.
PikachuTrainer · 26-30, M
@HerKing yes, and American is also Geography and English is still the language, however we refer to both as British English and American English.
HerKing · 61-69, M
@PikachuTrainer I'm on an expats group and several people (ALL from the UK) have been asked by Americans if it took them long to learn English....😳
PikachuTrainer · 26-30, M
@HerKing and?
HerKing · 61-69, M
@PikachuTrainer And...Oh, you don't do irony?
PikachuTrainer · 26-30, M
@HerKing I was hoping you would get to the point but I guess I was wrong.
HerKing · 61-69, M
@PikachuTrainer The point is why would an American ask someone who is a UK citizen how long it took them to learn English...
PikachuTrainer · 26-30, M
@HerKing Beats me.
@HerKing They’re dumb. Sorry. I’m annoyed when people from the U.S. “correct” UK spelling because of their ignorance about differences. I know both spellings are accepted, but the language did originate in the UK.
