I Have Unpopular Opinions And Im Fine With That

Unpopular opinion:

State and local police should be completely dissolved. Federal agents should be the ONLY ones who get involved in stopping crime. They are more intelligent, receive way better training for longer, and are far more neutral when it comes to solving problems between citizens.

How much experience do you have with the law enforcement "system?" You are entitled to your opinion, but don't you realize that law enforcement has to start locally with community interaction. Then as the radius expands different secondary sources of enforcement is needed. Federal enforcement crossing state lines would totally ignore the local nature of most crime.

@DearAmbellina2113 that isn't the case. But such trials, at least the one I know about in my state, ended up poorly. The local population resented the state police patrolling in their area. The patrols were less often and not involved with the schools, businesses etc. The state police were not happy with their role. The costs were actually greater to the community. In short, the attempt failed.

@samueltyler2 Feds, not state police.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@DearAmbellina2113 that would be even farther from the areas they would be servicing making things even worse.
[c=#359E00]police should separate from government, independent. If they put under government they become tool of government[/c]
@firefall [c=#359E00]to separate police from government[/c]

@YukikoAmagi then who would sanction the police. ?
@St0ut [c=#359E00]they have their own leader. This is and idea, no need to push me. I hate talk about politics, i hate government, i hate country. Bye![/c]

And I'm guessing they would probably even show up when someone calls, lol.
Can't get a cop here when ya need one.

and they usually don't panic and shoot first & ask later.
firefall · 61-69, M
On one hand, YES, definitely.

On the other, the enormous increase in the number of federal agents will lead to a decrease in quality of them.

Still, on balance, it would get rid of a lot of the local corruption and nepotism that makes local police such a festering stew of rottenness.

Next: eliminate elected judges while we're at it.
DearAmbellina2113 · 41-45, F
@firefall and also, place term-limits on how long judges, senate, and congressmen can hold office. No more 50 year terms!!!

We can't afford to train police officers for longer periods or make the training better for them. State and local police are already underfunded and understaffed because the funds for them just aren't there.
St0ut · 51-55, M
on the flip side I am responsible for maintain my skills and training. Not my employer who may or may not assist.

@4meAndyou

@St0ut She is saying that you never HAD good training, so that even if you maintain it, it's not good enough.
DunDunDun · 22-25, F
Depends on what type of crime but I agree. It makes me so upset how many cases of things like murder and rape go unsolved because people that don't know what they're doing are covering it.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@DunDunDun murder cases are in most cases, not for local authorities to investigate. In my state capital cases are referred to county prosecutors offices to investigate. Sometimes those are referred up to the state. You really need to know what happens in your community and state. Some cities are so big, they have their own secondary police levels, places such as LA, Chicago and NYC are such.
Axelerator · 26-30, M
Yeah that seems reasonable enough. Only thing is that it requires massive redistribution of resources people and a huge need for retraining the current police force and more, into agents. Not to mention years of restructuring. Would take time, but it's not impossible to do :)
DearAmbellina2113 · 41-45, F
@Axelerator it's doable
Axelerator · 26-30, M
@DearAmbellina2113 I agree, but it requires a lot of people agreeing to make it happen. Someday perhaps.
Reject · 26-30, M
I don't believe you're the first person to think of this and I imagine there's a lot of reasons for why that wouldn't work. Granted I don't know. I'm not knowledgeable on these matters and I won't pretend to be, but something just tells me it wouldn't be that easy.
St0ut · 51-55, M
So state rights would be nullified?
chuck7882 · 61-69, M
The majority of the cops I have met are arrogant and self absorbed. And many of them love to intimidate innocent people.
