Unpopular opinion:

State and local police should be completely dissolved. Federal agents should be the ONLY ones who get involved in stopping crime. They are more intelligent, receive way better training for longer, and are far more neutral when it comes to solving problems between citizens.

On one hand, YES, definitely.

On the other, the enormous increase in the number of federal agents will lead to a decrease in quality of them.

Still, on balance, it would get rid of a lot of the local corruption and nepotism that makes local police such a festering stew of rottenness.

Next: eliminate elected judges while we're at it.
