What’s the housing market like where you are?

Here it’s very competitive and most people can’t win a bid to purchase a home. Being out bid by tens of thousands of dollars. It’s crazy.

Don't play that game. Get a van and park it by the river!

Houses are sold before they're listed here, got a new home boom going on
Average joe is priced out the market..

According to an article from ABC7 Chicago, selling your home over here is a lot easier than buying at the moment...
EVANSTON, Ill. (WLS) -- The housing market for the metro Chicago area is on fire if you're looking to sell, but that's creating challenges for those looking to buy.

Illinois Realtors" reported an 18% increase in sales in the nine county metro area in January and February over the same months in 2020, as well as a 15% increase in the median sales price, from $235,000 to $270,000.

Angie Jungwirth is moving from Wilmette to Northfield. Essentially an empty nester, the COVID pandemic has given her a new perspective on what life requires.

"We just realized we kind of need space," she said. "Our kids were coming home from college and from jobs to spend more time with us, and we just kind of didn't care as much about the location."

She's not alone. Those considerations, when added to record low interest rates and the fear of missing out in the Chicago region, have shrunk the inventory of homes for sale, observers said, to levels not seen since before the Great Recession.

"There's no inventory, and buyers are fighting to get in," said Sandy Sherwood of @Properties Evanston.

As they focus on functionality, Sherwood said buyers must be prepared for bidding wars virtually everywhere.

It’s booming here. New construction and resale. Two of my brothers just bought new homes. Listed theirs, one sold in 3 days and the other in 5. Both 20k+ over the asking price.
@JesseInTX same here
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
Ridiculously over-inflated.

Here in the east of the UK the average two bedroom house is currently costing about £250,000 ($344,000) (e290,000) But there's no logic as to why.

I fear this is a worldwide bubble. Created to try and move the world economy forward.
Only one way that will end !
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@Callmewhatyouwill Similar here.
Thing is, people know cities and towns are majorly expensive to rent or buy in.
So some people move further away in order to be able to buy and then commute in to work.

Where i am is the 'back end of beyond !' Most folk here were born here. Not the kind of place you'd choose to move to unless you were retired.

Consequently properties tend to be smaller (older folks downsizing) and because the nearest city is 15 miles away it's far enough to not be caught up in 'mega-silly-pricing'
@Picklebobble2 I'm currently blooming at some property like that, but with a fair amount of land...

I like the convenience of living in a city but it's getting less cost effective by the week.... Doesn't help were get most of the country's covid refugees also
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@Callmewhatyouwill That's what i mean. Nobody has any work coming in; no company is screaming for a workforce; not as if schools are over-subscribed.....so what is driving the housing market ?

I live in a city over built in proportion to the population. Cheap houses all over.
Miklee02 · 51-55, F
Aidan · 26-30
It’s crazy sky rocketing because the local university keeps expanding and making the living cost higher. Rent is like 2400 for a 3 bedroom
Iwillwait · M
Terrible. The Buyers cannot buy without being above asking price, far above
4meAndyou · F
I've heard that Florida is insane right now. Everyone wants to live there so they can escape from California and New York.

No one wants to live in Massachusetts, unless it is inside the elitist areas like Newton and Wellesley, or certain areas in Cambridge.

Prices are up about 7.8%.
@4meAndyou depends on where in FL. In the cities yes, just outside town not bad at all
4meAndyou · F
@Callmewhatyouwill Got a friend, and a brother, who live down there, and they can't get a construction guy to come out to save their lives...all busy building!
@4meAndyou yup, sounds about right. It's been a great 2 years in construction.. sad part is we have more jobs than people to fill them. So all kinds of delays.
I have people bidding to buy a home not even ready to be built
monte3 · 70-79, M
Insane would be how I would describe it.

Same,the homes are overpriced and people are paying 10 to 20k sometimes over the asking price. It's a seller's market and buyers are having a hell of a time. I keep seeing listings for 500k for 1200 sq ft SFH
Competitive. But its not that expensive where I live, we are in zee sticks though... so only real competition is from zee amish.
Doomflower · 36-40, M
I don't know but I should
tallpowerhouseblonde · 31-35, F
Very strong values here in England and rising.The actual price varies for different areas of the country.A tax on house purchases called stamp duty has been temporarily stopped to help people and it has fuelled sales.

Multiple bids, real estate going much higher than listed, and #1 market in the US currently.
U53RN4M3 · 31-35, M
Our houses are listed or sit empty for years. It's pretty bad.
hunkalove · 61-69, M
@U53RN4M3 Detroit?
U53RN4M3 · 31-35, M
@hunkalove I'm in Alabama. It's a rough little town.
Inflated but booming
Allelse · 36-40, M
Around 1.5 to 2 million.
Zonuss · 41-45, M
It's booming here on the beach. The market is growing in the Carolinas.
Nuclear! I just signed for a place yesterday. I'm sure it was worth about 80% of that 2 years and in 2 years I'm sure it'll be again!
