Why do some older people on here feel the need to use age as an excuse to gain superiority over younger people?

Anybody who wants to feel superior to someone else does because they are insecure about something. They are just struggling in a way

Seriously though, some people have a need to feel superior. For these people, grasping at anything that gives them that feeling is part of who they are. I think it's a sign that inside they are very insecure.

It's an easy get out when running out of decent arguments. Age is not necessarily reflective of experience. Some people live more in 20yrs than others do in 50.

Nobody can gain superiority over anyone without that persons permission. Therefore, don’t give it.

I'm glad you said "some" people...as I would hope that many of the older crowd would respect that some younger folks have more experience in many areas than they do. That's the key....experience, not age. And even so, "superiority" is irrelevant. Superiority should be anointed, not claimed.

They don’t realize that age has nothing to do with understanding, not even experience does. Wisdom comes from being able to learn from something. All ages can do this depending on how much they’re willing to keep an open mind which many don’t, so they end up acting like kids anyways because god forbid someone didn’t share their opinion or consider their feelings enough. Since when did someone respecting or agreeing with you help you learn something new? How about never.

Because they've got nothing else...

Not all of us do, I only go after those that show attitude and still need some growing up to do.

Some elderly people think that just because they are old that they have infinite wisdom. They think that they have literally seen everything and have been through every experience.

I would have to agree with the others who have said that it's probably due to insecurity, and that's all they've got left to make themselves feel better.

I hope you don't mind me sharing this quote that I just saw. I need to remember this myself, as I know just enough to know that I still have a lot to learn.

People very rarely just talk plainly and always look for some kind of advantage. They're not really interested in anything but "winning" the conversation and, as such, there's not much point in talking to them because they're just using you to make them feel better about themselves.

Some do some don't... but the people that do... regardless of age... have nothing going in in their lives...

they say because they have seen more due to their age, and got more experience they are more wise and know more. which isn't always the case and even so, sometimes fresh thoughts and ideas are better then stuck up old ideas :p

I have no idea, age doesn't automatically make you wiser or better. You're way smarter/more mature than several adults I deal with on a daily basis.

I don't know. Personally I've got a burr under my tail when I think about anyone who feels that wearing the mantle of victimhood or special class status entitles them to be abusive.

If thats the situation with some....thats truly a shame. We are all equal and deserve respect...we arent called to agree but we are ALL sitting in front of a screen and nobody here is in a position of power in any way.

cause they think there more experience evening though most of them at our age underage drank and did drugs lol and they think the internet bad XD

I've never done that, I'm always nice to younger people...it's some of the middle aged that are the worse....only a few....

When we are kids we are taught to respect our elders. Last I checked though, respect is a [b]two-way[/b] street.

It has to do with a neediness. They use it as an entitlement, which it absolutely is NOT.

Wisdom doesn't always come with age, sometimes age just comes by itself!

Generally those are the most ignorant people, fools of an extreme sort. Wisdom is closely tied to humility, because the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom.

Kind of hard to answer this since you didnt add a scenario in why that happened, but Wait til you're alot older and deal with alot of younger self entitled people, you'll understand
