@TheSeptikSkeptik Yeah I read a lot of Chomsky, particularly when I was younger. His stuff on Central America is pretty damn relevant right now.

@CountScrofula I've only read one and I don't know if it was even written by him personally to be honest, It was a collection of discussions and works by Chomsky. I don't remember the name of it off hand but I'll look it up.

@sarabee1995 I think that there are people who align themselves with a given politician and/or political party because they agree with certain talking points and, because they dislike the opposition.

I think that there are people who align themselves with a given politician and/or political party because they actually believe in those talking points and policies.

I tried to put myself, as honestly as possible, into the mindset of the second type.

@CopperCicada The problem with the centrist label in a right-left political dichotomy is that it applies equally to a person who truly holds centrist positions across the spectrum of issues and a person who holds a relatively equal number of extreme left and extreme right positions.

I am closer to the latter and this survey pretty much labeled me a centrist. 🙄 I hold not a single centrist position that I know of. 🤷‍♀️

@sarabee1995 Sure. I think that's one of the problems with the right-left dichotomy. It has no predictive power. Just as you say, you're in the middle because you have a "centrist" views or because you have a mixture of right/left views without bias.

I'm a centrist like you are a centrist.

There are other axes that I think are more interesting these days.

@CopperCicada I think political views are so varied that no singular axis can describe the population. I've seen some really comprehensive Venn diagrams on political thought that I like much better.

@Cierzo left and right tend to be about economics, up and down tend to be the social issues.

@ViciDraco I don't agree. Left is about equality and right about meritocracy, but also right is nationalist and left internationalist.

@SatanBurger neither really, so long as you put thought into what you view is correct. I'd say your result is rather a live and let live type result with a slight lean towards favoring people ahead of business.

I know this is what you say, and now we're getting quite close to political standing. I've had a brief look at your latest posts not much new there. Still praising and glorifying POTUS and slamming those in criticism of him as being crying lefties and so on. That's not a wait and see approach. Thank you for your public apology for your previous not nice comments for me. Let's leave it by that. I see no common ground debating the political environment with you as what's having an open mind to me isn't being met with your approach. Have a nice one.

This will be partisan thinking and is represented richly on this site, and one could argue for both of us doing exactly the same at times. I am sure you'll say you're only raising questions, and so am I and a lot of others doing. Btw, being critically thinking isn't the same as knowing in advance what the facts are.

So very true, and again it goes for all. Also the ones you might dislike. It shouldn't be a partisan question. Yet again, critically questioning about what might be a concern isn't necessarily judging. It's not the same as one is yelling [i]LOCK HER UP[/i], just to mention one example coming to mind.

@Burnley123 I really blame how old some of the questions are. I think if there was some pointed stuff about immigration it'd change things a lot for several people.

@CountScrofula I agree. Also, IMO there is an issue of framing in mainstream politics which distorts how people vote. Do Trump supporters who hate cultural liberalism and PC support his actual economic agenda? Do Clinton supporters who are centre left and not the socialist' Bernie bros actually want an interventionist foreign policy. Tribalism based on the culture war effects how principles translate to votes.
