Well I'm about where I expected to be on the left-right axis, but I thought I'd be more libertarian.

You’re righter than me too? @sarabee1995
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@jackjjackson I'm extreme right on some issues and extreme left on others. 🤷‍♀️
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
@sarabee1995 The compass does a weird job of measuring modern ideas of left/right.
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@CountScrofula How so?

Seemed to me to be asking appropriate left-right discerning questions. I thought it was the libertarian-authoritarian questions that were a bit weird.
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
@sarabee1995 No matter how universal and objective this aims to be, the questions are always of a time and place. What I see here is SW Trump supporters are showing as centre-left, rather than authoritarian right, even a little.

Some pointed questions about immigration and refugees would probably change a lot of the answers because that's one of the top issues between left and right today. You get people who support gay marriage but want to shoot refugees on sight.
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@CountScrofula Well the position of Trump supporters is not surprising. He's never been a conservative. He ran as a populist and drew from the right and the left.
room101 · 51-55, M
@sarabee1995 That's pretty much exactly what I expected your result to show.
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@room101 Yeah, I'm fairly predictable. What about you? Did you post results? Did they need to add some columns to the left of the chart? 😂
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
Does authoritaton mean one is a democrat/republican or a Nazi 🤔 @sarabee1995
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
No offense Count but perhaps you previously miscategorized a number of people. @CountScrofula
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
Drago is somewhat extreme lol. I’m shocked at the lack of “authoritative types. What does that mean anyways? @room101
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
@jackjjackson They actually some explanation for this on their pages. Your typical neocons and neoliberals are both in the blue quadrant. I do feel the quiz could use some more questions regarding when and why it would be appropriate to use military force and possibly a few other topics.
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@jackjjackson No, not at all. One can be liberal/progressive and lean either authoritarian or libertarian. One can also be conservative and lean authoritarian or libertarian.

The National Socialist Party (NAZI) of Germany was an extremely authoritarian party and on this chart would likely have appeared top-middle or slightly left of center up top.

@jackjjackson 😮😮😮, now Jack ... that ain’t right !

@sarabee1995 I posted my result under @jackjjackson thread. I'm more left leaning than I expected. Apparently.🤷‍♂️

Having said that, however, the result definitely reflects the me of say 15 years ago. So maybe @CountScrofula is right in that time is a factor. I also think that me being British/European has an impact on the result. Even our Conservatives take many things for granted which many Americans would view as being Socialist.
room101 · 51-55, M
@sarabee1995 Come on now Sara, please don't make the same mistake that so many of your fellow Americans make. The fact that the Nazis had the word "Socialist" in their name does not mean that they were politically left of anything.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
Your result seems about right 😀 @TexChik
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@room101 Do me a favor and put yourself in the mindset of a 1930's German National Socialist party member and take the quiz. In terms of our modern concepts of right and left, they were very far from "conservative" in political terms. In fairness, they were also far from the modern concept of liberal/progressive. If you take the quiz honestly from their historical perspective, I think you'll see they come in at slightly left of center using these modern terms. Again, in fairness, it is hard to politically classify a movement from the 30's & 40's with modern classifications.

@jackjjackson 😁👍🏻
room101 · 51-55, M
@sarabee1995 For decades we have had a political party called "The Monster Raving Looney Party" in this country. I wonder what part of their name aligns with what they are in reality. I wonder what sort of results their members would get in this quiz. 🤔

@sarabee1995 I did as you suggested. Here is the result

jackjjackson · 61-69, M
At the chart of a SS member lol. @room101
room101 · 51-55, M
@jackjjackson I tried to put myself into the mindset of a real Nazi supporter. Not that of an ordinary German who had been taken in by Hitler and his rhetoric. So yeah, I suppose those were the types that ended up in the SS and the Gestapo.
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@room101 I did as well and came up further left than you. Now I'm curious which answers we differed on. Not due I have the time to do it again and record my answers though. Idk.
room101 · 51-55, M
@sarabee1995 I think that there are people who align themselves with a given politician and/or political party because they agree with certain talking points and, because they dislike the opposition.

I think that there are people who align themselves with a given politician and/or political party because they actually believe in those talking points and policies.

I tried to put myself, as honestly as possible, into the mindset of the second type.
