Do you consider your job stressful, and if so, what makes it stressful?

Yes. For me, it is people interactions for the most part. We are constantly having difficult or unpleasant conversations with people, and people are usually on the defensive or cautious side. Probing and asking the right questions is a skill to get information people won’t volunteer otherwise. Being able to debate your professional opinion and corroborate it with strong evidence that no one will volunteer to give you, while maintaining cool and knowing how to deal with different people using different temperament and tone, as some will attack you to intimidate you, others will be defensive, and some will be overly nice but dodge etc. All of that back and forth with people and managing the relationship and keeping it civil, while ensuring you meet strict timelines and getting high quality work with well supported conclusions should you get reviewed, or questioned by anyone especially by regulators, makes the job stressful.

But I will say I actually like my job, and I thrive in a challenging and fast paced environment. I tried to change my job recently and be on the other side. Got the offer and rejected it because since I started the interview process I knew it is not what I wanted, but still went with it and wanted to see the outcome.

Very, especially during the summer months when the demand and heat are higher.

The stress comes from not only being a perfectionist and expecting a certain caliber of excellence from those around me, but it also comes from being on a constant time crunch to push out orders otherwise tickets get backed up. During the summer months, we can be so crowded that the wait to get in the door is an hour and the wait on food can be just as long. That kind of hangry vibe mixed with relying on others to bring their A game ramps up the stress of the environment.

One job is stressful, the other job isn't except the people I work with freak out over nothing.

Being a caregiver just hurts. I am pretty patient but dementia is hard to be around for hours and hours.
Bang5luts · M
@ScreamingFox and that is expected. Dementia is taxing on those caring for the person experiencing it.

Yes. The work is difficult and it’s also difficult to figure out how long it takes me to complete projects. So the project management side of it creates perpetual anxiety.
The other aspects of it, the perks like it being WFH counter balance some of that.

Every job has stress its what occurs when you try to make something work or happen without knowing the exact outcome. What family doesnt have stress its part of life get used to it!
@Likestoenjoylife Probably, but then the reasons may vary, as the answers show.

Very stressful.

I take 50+ calls a day (100+ during peak season), and they're all angry, rude, panicked, or emotional. I have to give each caller my full empathy and attention, then take another call immediately after, without bringing any of the frustration or emotion from the previous call into that current call. It sucks. It's mentally and emotionally draining.

I don't think I ever used to get stressed out , it just wasn't that important to me at the end of the day. Being overworked , to the point of physical exhaustion , was the real killer.

Yeah but less stressful than it was when I was a frontline worker. The content we are exposed to is stressful.
Yes at times
Usually other people make it that way . It's usually down to a lack of communication
Ferric67 · M
Nope

As a matter of fact, I'm the one who makes it stressful for everyone else.
Cloud7593 · 46-50, F
It can be. I work retail and people act like 2 year olds half the time. They whine, demand, make messes, want special treatment and everything for free.
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
Despite all the hoop-la that has been used to build an industry around it, stress is merely perceived lack of control
I never accept responsibility unless I also have the authority to make changes
@newjaninev2 very true
caPnAhab · 26-30, M
It can be difficult. There's lots of juggling tasks and time management involved

@BittersweetPotato I'm honored and thank you for seeing me. Potatoes are superior, indeed 🤗
No, but the manager sure attempts to make it more stressful
HowtoDestroyAngels · 46-50, M
Yes. Way too much micromanagement.

It comes when crunch projects rear their heads.
