Anyone else here have issues with being too sensitive?

I'm sensitive to people at work. I want everyone to like me and get along with everyone. If someone doesn't seem to like me (especially someone in a leadership role), I get really bothered by it. I just want to know why the person doesn't like me. Anyone else have that problem?

I'd much rather be liked than disliked, but recognize that not everyone will like me. That's the way it is for just about all of us, I think. The good news is that if you are routinely respectful and considerate of others, most people will be okay with you. Don't concern yourself too much with the minority who have negative feelings about you.
@Rutterman Workplace can be a different ball game than social interaction though…depending on the job, it could be impossible to ignore the boss or coworkers if they’re playing politics. One has to have thick skin nowadays…no matter how nice you are. 🥺

@Vivaci I'm not suggesting that co-workers or the boss should be ignored. That probably isn't possible or advisable in most work situations. However, it probably is possible to limit most interactions with hostile co-workers to work-related matters. Casual conversations that have nothing to do with work aren't typically a job requirement as far as I know.
Oh no…I usually try to prove them wrong, if they show me the attitude. I don’t care if they like me or not…

Don’t think too much about pleasing others…remember this..

One of the most important lessons to learn in life is that not everyone is going to like you... Doesn't matter how good, attractive, whatever you are... And that's ok because do you like everyone you meet?
perceptivei · 31-35, F
@Convivial That's a good point. I like that.
Convivial · 26-30, F
@perceptivei there are often people you meet who get an idea in their head and nothing will change that idea... It's their problem, don't make it yours ;)
perceptivei · 31-35, F
@Convivial i guess so.
BlueVeins · 22-25
I really don't give much of a shit about people not liking me, but I do get incredibly anxious about being scolded and derided. I can hear my pulse in my head when that happens.
huskyguy89 · 31-35, M
You're in good company there. Leaders don't bug me if they don't like me it's people in the same position as I am. I try to get along with everyone and be as respectful as possible.. people just aren't always that way with me. So no, you're not alone.
Yes.
I dont like to be a problem or the cause of anyones problem. So when they dont like me I feel like its because of something I did and its all my fault.
perceptivei · 31-35, F
@nonsensiclesnail right. I get that.
Zeusdelight · 61-69, M
I think you make your life very complicated.

Unless a person says they do not like me or makes it very clear they do not like me I don't assume anyone dislikes me and would be very wary of thinking someone seems to like or dislike me.

If you want everyone to like you and to get along with you, you need to stand up and show them who you are, rather than worrying that someone will dislike you.

I have not met anyone who is genuinely liked by everyone and gets along with everyone. I have met some people who think they are and they are very sadly mistaken.
It doesn't bother me as long as they're not rude about it. I don't like everyone either but I'm not rude.

I used to. I still do on occasion. I feel nothing for people not liking me anymore though.
Wiseacre · F
Yes, I tend to be, but developed thicker skin over the yrs...can be done!
pdockal · 56-60, M
Never cared because I've always done my work professionally
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
I could care less whether my coworkers like me or not. The important thing is that we can work together and communicate well. I don’t think you should worry about whether your coworkers like you or not because they are not your friends. They are your coworkers and that is it
Dv8rs · 18-21, F
No, I know that if someone gives me a hard look, that maybe they are having a bad day. I won't think too much of it, because I know that it isn't always about me.
Dv8rs · 18-21, F
@perceptivei You can't really control other people's thoughts. They think what they think, regardless if it's factual, or not.
perceptivei · 31-35, F
@Dv8rs I want to be the best person I can be. I really care what people think of me. It's unfortunate that I have a difficult time proving it.
Dv8rs · 18-21, F
@perceptivei Don't let what you think others think of you change you. By all means, be the best person that you can be, and as long as you are the best person you can be, you don't have to prove anything to anyone, but yourself.

I am not familiar with this word "Sensitive" you speak of but here is response to rest -

At work if someone does not like me I actually rejoice :D It means they will not pester me unless completely necessary. That means I can do my job or read a book with less distractions. It also means one less smile I have to fake as they walk by.
I sure will NOT try to find out why they do not seem to like me because that might lead to a conversation and future interactions that will just bore me.

As far as "leadership" not liking me, it is a double blessing. Although, at my job, this poster applies. It brings a tear each time I see it. 🤣 -

I feel like I'm too sensitive with a certain person. I'm quick to overthink and then twist the narrative in my head to make me overwhelmed and feel sad. 🙄
LilPrincess · 41-45, F
Love me or hate me...it doesn't matter

I have sensitive moments however that is not one of them
SilkenMist · 46-50, F
@LilPrincess New PFP looks good :)
LilPrincess · 41-45, F
@SilkenMist thank ya. I like to change it here and FB when I feel good about a photo I took.
SlaveEt · 31-35, F
Sorta. I do my best to get along and be liked but there is just no pleasing some people. Don't let them get to you, they aren't worth the effort.
I'm missing that part of my brain that cares about being liked ..
Truly i don't care ...
Ruth82 · 36-40, F
I am the same. Have felt that way most of my life.

I’m like that too
swirlie · 31-35, F
Is tipping the boss's desk over with him underneath it, a sign that I may be too sensitive to his suggestions?
Ontheroad · M
@swirlie yeah, it's likely you have a distaste for him 😁
swirlie · 31-35, F
@Ontheroad
