If you are hourly it is against the law to do any work off the clock. They have to pay you double time if you read your email once you punch out.
I used to work for Tmobile and they got nailed by the state for people working off the clock. They had to send every employee in the company a months pay and pay huge fines to the state.

Completely unacceptable! Unless you agreed to work overtime

I’m used to it, but with the nature of my work and working with people in multiple time zones, it cannot always be helped. Does your workplace have stated communication hours? In my office, you’re not allowed to call or text on a work-related matter after 9pm or before 7am, unless the parties involved have made an arrangement to be contacted during quiet hours for the particular instance. Some people like to work and push deadlines so they can take Friday off for the most part, just checking in remotely, periodically; hence, some nights they’re working later than quiet hours.
But I would let your supervisor know that you’re not in the regular habit of checking work email once you have left for the day.

Nothing is that important in my job

That would piss me right off, and I'd be sternly replying to them and their managers on how they can't have these late emails with unreasonable turn-around times.

@cherokeepatti I didn't get it until I got to work. I have my email on my phone but I don't check it once I'm off
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@iamnikki that sucks

It sounds unfair to me, unless there's something in your job description that specifically states they may contact you and request work after hours. I'm guessing that's not the case... 😐
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@SW-User yea, and I didn't.
Timeforsun · 51-55, F
I do get those from time to time, but it is part of my job to be available for quick responses that may need addressed after hours. I have also had those surprise tasks that were needed first thing when I walk into the office. I can't really complain too much either, as I can be easily replaced by someone that would be more willing to accept it.

Because a person has been promoted to the position of manager who is not competent enough to hold the position of manager...

Would not even know it arrived

It’s not right

Tell whomever is responsible that this should not happen again.

Go to your HR department. This is horseshit. You can't be expected to work beyond your working hours.
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@basilfawlty89 nah, cause I'm brand new. Just got my first paycheck. I have been informed that this is weekly so I'll be prepared for the next one😉
