who taught you how to drive?

mostly my ex bestie taught me. a bit my mom. a bit my dad.

my dad's sign owns a cattle ranch so lot of the kids started driving young. not to help with chores really, but just for fun

my mom taught me to not gaf about what other drivers think of you when you're driving safe. helped me a lot when i was getting tailgated going 45/50 in a 45 as a new driver

An instructer and both my parents.

Your Mum is right, don't let them intimidate you.
The first time I ever drove I was around 12 or 13 . My father was drunk and insisted on going to the beach, it was late at night and my mother was furious at the idea of him driving, they argued over it and finally he shouted out does anyone want to go to the beach with me!
I said I would go, my mom said no but dad took me anyway. We got to the beach ( about 45 minutes away) and he continued to drink heavily.
Finally at around 2am he said that we were going to go home, staggering back to the truck he realized that he couldn’t drive so he gave me the keys and told me to drive!!
He coached me along so I wouldn’t get us lost and between his dosing off and me driving all the way back at about twenty miles an hour, we eventually got home, probably a two hour drive or more!!
That’s the first time I ever drove and I didn’t try driving again until I was eighteen

Taught myself

Growing up we never had a car. We took the bus or walked everywhere.

My car was a stolen car. 15 years old drinking with friends and I was dared to steal the neighbors car.

It was stick shift and the only stick shift I seen was on TV or from the riding the school and city buses which were stick shift at the time

I stole it and we went joy riding all night long till it ran out gas and we walked home and sober up

That was my first time driving

@swirlie You weren't even born yet, So why are you picking on me?

I know why, Because I have an outie and not an Innie

@HumanEarth
That's true, I wasn't even born yet and my father was still dicking around trying to figure out how to ask my mom out on a date, but you are correct, I have been found out, the real reason I'm picking on you is because you have an outie...

...like I do!

...but mine's better because mine came with a child-proof locking pin!

My first boss taught me. We lived in the same neighborhood and we started there, then city streets and aves, then highways and, finally, the interstate. She had tons of patience and nerves of steel

Everyday after school it was 3:30pm there was a McDonalds across the street . My mom worked until 5pm then went to the bar until 5/7pm . One time she came to pick me up drunk and couldn’t drive . I learned Stick shift for the first time !

My Dad showed me the basics, then I was free to drive around the property . I think I was 12, maybe 13. We lived in the country with dirt "roads" to practice on.

My German immigrant father to the US and the drivers ED teacher, I wonder why she never cussed in two languages, yelled, and hit you while driving though. That was weird. LOL
My parents and I took drivers Ed in school. I practiced with my cousin and older friends with cars.

I learned to drive a motorized vehicle that had 4 wheels at the age of 9 when I was growing up on the farm. It was a very small Ford 8N tractor and our barn doors were 20 feet wide, so I had no issues with keeping it between the goal posts when entering and exiting.

My Dad was always a strong believer in Murphy's Law however, which is why he was always present during one of those practice maneuverers! Once safely outside with nothing to hit except the house itself for as far as the eye could see, he hooked up the wagon and I became the official puller of the wagon during tobacco harvest time each year!

When I turned 10, he taught me how to ride a one-speed motorized minibike which he resurrected from the town dump and at the age of 16, I went for my motorcycle driver's license using a Yamaha trail bike and have been riding a motorcycle ever since, rain or shine!

My dad in his giant van down my small town’s thin roads
My older sister’s driving practice made my mom never even consider getting in the car with me
A friend in the navy taught me how to shift a standard transmission but I taught myself how to do the rest, so I’m mostly self taught

Try living in Massachusetts; we have some of the worst drivers in the US 🥹
