I don’t see the reason for it. And after my city tried legalizing it for awhile (a very short while), I’d rather not see it at all. The folks who participate are never the ones with fit, “beach” bodies. 😳🤢
@chrisCA Hey, I resemble that remark. (grins) we have an area near Malibu that still has a communal atmosphere, lot's of musicians, artist, and earth lovers live in Topanga Canyon.
@bijouxbroussard Yes, many of the women still wear granny dresses and glasses, most are vegan. It's a walk down memory lane. Many of the homes have stained glass windows, the air pungent with the smell of pot. Very quiet and mellow.
So long as good hygiene is being practiced, I am okay with it. I figure I cannot put bags over the head of people's faces I do not want to see so what difference is a nipple or penis I do not want to see?
In the short term it would definitely be disruptive just due to social norms and fetishization of the naked form. But once it became normalized, it might be a net positive. Specifically regarding people with body image issues in typically concealed parts of the body. There would be more visibility of what is normal. A lot of people only see those things in advertisement, entertainment, or porn and those are all highly curated and not representative of normal.
@ViciDraco Those are valid, logical points. But I suspect it would’ve taken awhile for me to not be startled by encountering naked people while running daily errands. What got the laws repealed here were complaints from people whose children were seeing them.
@bijouxbroussard that is where I would actually say it went wrong. So long as we're discussing nudity and not people engaging in sexual behavior, I do not think children should be shielded from it. The treatment of it as forbidden and "adult" is part of why we have such an unhealthy societal relationship with nudity to begin with. It is why we have trouble separating nudity from sex.
Normalizing a taboo, even if completely logically supported, is always going to be difficult to accomplish. Public nudity is especially broad and emotionally charged. And the bridge from where we are to normalization is fairly long.
Doing hard things over long periods of time to be logically accommodating to lifestyles we don't really have much interest in ourselves is a bit of a stretch for our current society.
Hell, we can barely do things most people agree should be done right now.
I don't mind it as long as you have designated areas set aside and that there's no lewd activity. Simple nudity is not a problem as far as I'm concerned.
I have to admit that I have mixed feelings on public nudity. I'd never expose myself on purpose to random strangers, and I dread the thought of seeing absolutely everyone nude. Yet I enjoy sneakily getting away with as much public nudity as possible. I've also been witness to hundreds of party goers fornicating. Not for the shy.
@GirlPower yes. It’s really the police drama that set the template for the modern shows now. Incredibly well written. Great acting and featured guest stars like Dustin Hoffman, Robert Duvall, Alan Alda and Robert Redford.
in ways I'm thankful it isn't around, but then if we all openly see each other, not much imagination is required to see if things would work between the two(or three).
Go for it, it's quite liberating as long as it's for the right reasons and in the correct context. Chasing women down the street with an erection is probably going to be frowned upon.
