What music should you listen to if you are too old to rock 'n' roll but too young to die ?

When I'm lost I normally head for

Ironicman · 56-60, M
@monte3 hard to believe this was almost 200 years ago. Just magnificent
monte3 · 70-79, M
@Ironicman you feel the storm inside him, at least I do...
Ironicman · 56-60, M
@monte3 absolutely 🌩️
monte3 · 70-79, M
Classical. And I am even serious about that answer. If you are not moved by say the Brandenburg Concertos you are not old but dead. Vivaldi’s Four Seasons also...
Nimbus · M
@monte3 Yea, I like a bit of Wagner and also Elgar.
monte3 · 70-79, M
@Nimbus those Valkyries have to ride! 😊. Wagner is cool. 👍
Nimbus · M
@monte3 Stirring stuff! :)
ArishMell · 70-79, M
You music you enjoy, simple as that. No "should" about it!

All sorts for me - pop, rock, folk, brass-band, organ; "classical" from Renaissance via Classical to present-day, some jazz. Film & computer-game scores too, even though I have not seen a film for years and do not play video-games...

All from many different sources too. Far beyond just British and American, and far beyond the typical daytime pop radio material based almost entirely on just those two countries' last 50 years of pop charts. (Rock-and-Roll sprang up nearly 70 years ago, now...)

Also, almost all of the music I hear, in the genres above, is on the radio, so very easy to find.

About the only styles I don't like are 1930s-50 Swing-style, pseudo-sentimental "family-film" songs (e.g. Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music), and the present chart/dance pop material including Rap and what the supermarket trade calls "r-'n'-b" that's less Rhythm-and-Blues than a Bach fugue.
Nimbus · M
@ArishMell You are much like me in having varied tastes :)
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@Nimbus I think most of us broaden our tastes over the years, but tend to be loyal still to the music we raved over in our teens.
NankerPhelge · 61-69, M
Andy Williams.
[media=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E7iXpTJk15s]
Nimbus · M
@NankerPhelge Cool :)
NankerPhelge · 61-69, M
@Nimbus That particular song was so cool it was re-released in 1999 and it did even better in the charts that time than it did in 1967.

Engelbert forever ❤️
Punches · 46-50, F
@Picklebobble2 I am on a music forum and when the subject of LPs at thrift stores comes up, people often complain about the selection.

Englebert comes up a lot, as does Andy Williams, 101 strings, Eydie Gorme, and the ENTIRE collection of Firestone Christmas albums.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@Punches Could be worse !! Northern Brass bands play 'Hits of the 60's'......😖

Westlife's 'tribute' to Val Doonican.....😖
Punches · 46-50, F
@Picklebobble2 if you ever get back into LP collecting, for real, hit up the thrift stores. Plenty of Englebert-type music to choose from. Now the condition of the LPs might be a different story but there should be some in good shape.
TexChik · F
I am never too old to rock and roll .
LeggyOldWench · 51-55, F

@Nimbus Motown and the British Invasion and other who contributed to a if not the greatest era in music.
Nimbus · M
NankerPhelge · 61-69, M
@TheSirfurryanimalWales I remember him, he had two different voices. When he sang a conventional ballad like "If The Whole World Stopped Loving" he sang in a faux American accent, but when he sang an Irish novelty song like "O'Rafferty's Motor Car" his accent sounded as Irish as the Dubliners.
Nimbus · M
@TheSirfurryanimalWales lol, those jumpers!
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
Show tunes from Broadway plays
Nimbus · M
@AthrillatheHunt Yep, sounds good :)

@Nimbus yes i listen to it all day long lol
Punches · 46-50, F
American top 40 type stuff from the 80's is my main thing.

And when you asked this question - I bet most of the folks under 40 didn't catch the Jethro Tull reference.
exexec · 70-79, C
I listen to rock & roll from my youth, and other music that I enjoyed when I was young. I also enjoy orchestral music and classic country.

@Thevy29 They're good but when I saw them in concert they must have had an off day, they were awful.
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
