Are travelers checks still practical and accepted for everyday use when traveling today, or are there better alternatives?

Travellers cheques are largely obsolete in the UK, with new ones no longer issued, though existing American Express cheques never expire and can still be redeemed. While they offer high security for carrying funds, they now face very limited acceptance by merchants, high cashing-in fees, and poor exchange rates compared to modern prepaid travel cards, credit cards, or debit cards.

They trade goats and chickens with their muslim overlords.

They may be in a few places but are probably rendered obsolescent by credit and debit cards, and ATMs.

You do need some cash when travelling abroad, if only for small purchases like a cup of coffee or a few postcards, or admission to some attraction, but otherwise I think you can use your normal cards in most places. Obtain some host-currency cash before leaving home; use the ATMs or banks once there for more.
I use a travelers card, with many different currencies

I think checks in general are going out of fashion everything is cards and phones and apps these days till the cashless 666 mark of the beast society comes about 😒

Its already here. We're already numbered. We have birth certificate numbers, SS#, drivers license numbers. Everything we do is has a number

I have used a cash card which you can load up with money in the currency(ies) before you go and then either withdraw cash from ATMs or use as a debit card where accepted. It also avoids unexpected conversion charges from your bank. I'm not sure how far you'd get in Europe with the travellers cheque/check, but I don't travel much these days.

Visa or Mastercard cash advance has been the safe and secure method for over 25 years. Rates are superior and transactions secure. If the card is lost or stolen it can be replaced very rapidly as well.

I do remember using travellers' checks. Must be at least 40 years ago.
As far as I know, they can no longer be purchased in Australia.

That is a good question. I do not know

I remember when I was kid. Every vacation we got them, even when traveling inside the USA to theme parks
