Years ago, I was undergoing counseling and the counselor said - "it is okay to say no"
That one sentence changed my life.
By saying no to people who were in fact using me I was able to get my life back and living how I wanted to live.

@Gusman And that is in my opinion, the real key. You dont have to make every decision perfectly. You just have to avoid making a few major decisions wrong...😷

My wife of course. She simply made me want to be a better person. My children, who I worked hard to give every opportunity I missed and helped them avoid every mistake I made. And a select group of people along the way, who were my "Good Luck" either by helping me when they didnt have to. Or in a few cases, by showing what NOT to do and keeping me out of a minefield. I have been fortunate. And much of my good fortune stems from other people..😷

My husband. Because of his love, I learned to find all parts of me acceptable.

@PatientlyWaiting25 oh what an amazing experience this sounds.

Three men in my life have done that for me, and I love them all for the men they are.
Yes. I met him here and we became close in real life. He had experienced a lot of loss as well. He knew more than anyone I'd ever met and the way he broke things down was healing. Just an amazing person. My son loved him too. We had some fun adventures and it was just so nice to be around someone who was consistently listening and respecting. I miss him. I think of him every single day.

@EldritchFox oh and where is he now ? he was a brief passage through your life? Sounds good, some people come for sometime, they give us what they have and they fulfill the mission <3

I too miss this person, he changed his number and I have lost contact few months after we went separate ways
@Boeing He passed away. He changed me forever and I am a better person because of him. Tbh I didn't deserve him, I'm just a very lucky person that he picked me to get closer.

Yes, some people are just a season in our lives, but a very good one.
Boeing · 36-40
@EldritchFox oh no so sorry to hear that....uhhh -.- but yeah as you say, a season it is sometimes..

That person would be a man I came to call Papa Larry. My mother had died, and I spiraled out of control. I started working in an assisted living facility. I was the second man on an all-female staff. They made sure I knew I was outnumbered in many ways.

One day, they came to me and said, "You can have the angry old man, Larry, in apartment 14. From that day on, I talked with him after putting him to bed. I shared that my Father and I never got along. I shared my past. He shared his. He made sure I saw I was worth something. He believed in me when I didn't even believe in myself.

My last time visiting with him. He told me, "I am proud of you. You are a good man. The next day, they said he was in the hospital. Then my administrative nurse told me he'd passed. I got to go to his funeral, and a part of me still feels like I failed him.

Because of him, I stopped letting people bully me or tell me I was weak because I cry. Which I'm doing now.

@WanderingHelplessly aw.. it's such an empowering story indeed. Sometimes we fail to see our blessings until later on, where we have gained distance. How you found that job after her death and how you met this man, as if your mother's soul have guided you there, to find healing and empower yourself.
One of those rare stories.
Crying is getting the poison out of the system, as an older friend of mine used to say. It's a natural mechanism of release. It's healthy actually..
WanderingHelplessly · 51-55, MNew
@Boeing It really is. I used to hold it in. I remember when "The Last Skywalker" was out and Jimmy Kimmel had the cast on. I was working, and Larry called the med tech, saying he needed me. I ran in and said, "Larry, are you okay. He said, "Shhh, Jimmy Kimmel is on. Sit down." When I saw the cast, I started crying because he said, "Sit and watch this with me and explain Star Wars"

Just a side note. After Larry passed, I quit that job. I couldn't go on without Larry.

I'd have to say, my drill Sargent! Took my life in a whole different direction.
Boeing · 36-40
@GerOttman what is a drill Sargent...?
GerOttman · 70-79, M
@Boeing Military basic training instructor, there were 2 of them actually. Joining the military was a life changing decision for me and they were the first contact I had.

The ONE person who changed my life completely was my son, when he was born. I was only 23 at the time, but everything in my life changed after he was born. He began the process of forcing me to grow up!
Yes there's definitely one person that has made me feel happy to be alive. The Lord did first but then now there is also another person that is a great friend for companionship, strictly platonic, that has really changed my world for the better and I'm very appreciative to and always brings me joy.
Zonuss · 46-50, M
She's right here on this site.
A woman I have knoiwn for 14 years.
EVERYTHING changed after I came across her.
And it has not stopped.
It hasnt.

I dont know how to explain this Boeing.
But I am way different now than I was then.
Part of that is because of her. ☺

@Iknowyourouttheresomewhere yes sometimes they have a mission and once it's done they're gone... there's none to blame really..
@Boeing She came into my life when I needed such a friend as did a few others and sadly they have all gone now.
BrandNewMan · 61-69, M
Can't say that I've found that person as yet. TBH .. I doubt I will.
Degbeme · 70-79, M

Boeing · 36-40

Degbeme · 70-79, M
