what does it mean when you're so angry with that person your mind goes blank and can't think of 'comebacks'

someone angers you so extremely by what they said or posted, that you can't believe it, and your mind goes blank and you're actually ' amazed' with anger, and words to reply with won't come to you or you can't think of any? been in a few situations like that online in recent times.

I've been in that state of mind all my life. Only recently have I been able to stand up for myself (last month)

When you care for kids, you're supposed to (encouraged to) let them fight their own battles within reason. It's an important part of them being able to fend for themselves as they grow up.

I never got to fight my own battles as a kid, so not being able to argue or even speak my mind up until recently makes sense.

Did you have the same experience as a kid?

@TheRealBarbossa well i was once diagnosed with paranoid personality disorder, then it was changed to bpd in 2009. how are you managing now, do you cope better now? i do much better now, i think because of maturity and getting older.

@durinsBane1983 After learning about my diagnosis I found it easier to recognise when I was being avoidant and when I should actually speak up.

It's taken me a good amount of years to learn, but I've finally reached the stage where I'm somewhat comfortable standing up for myself.

@TheRealBarbossa i'm pleased to hear it, it sounds like you overcame a major barrier there. all the best.

Take a few deep breaths and step away. Go and make a cup of tea and then once you're a bit calmer, ask yourself how it really made you feel. Anger a lot of times is because it triggered another emotion like fear or sadness or loneliness. I think anger is really sneaky like that and sometimes, that reaction is out of proportion to whatever it was that triggered you. Reassessing often shows it wasn't as bad as you first thought. 😊

Pesky online peeps never bother me. There‘s a block button for that.
Sadly some people think that they can get away with everything they‘re blurting out unfiltered on the internet.
