What do you think is one of the worst things about anxiety?

For me it’s probably overthinking every time I speak to almost anyone. I’ll try to replay what I just said in my head after I finished speaking and then I’m like, “did I say that right? Did I not think long enough about my response and it sounds stupid or wrong now that I’m thinking again?”

Much like depression, once it reaches a certain point you can't stop it. You have to endure until it passes. For anxiety this can feel like a heart attack (and may lead to one).

@raysam363 Anxiety in and of itself does not cause a heart attack...while scary, anxiety or panic is not harmful to body.

Being in a room full of people & all the time, wondering how I can get out of it

Subjective to my own experience, part of my anxiety involves constantly being under pressure to preform well at work so that I can keep paying for the roof over my head.

and also, the person I send there each day to preform said task isn't by any means the real me. Alarming is my requirement to keep up the charade. o_o

I use to work the night shift and even though I didn’t have people breathing down my neck I did the same thing. Every night I’d work myself into a borderline panic attack and have quick breakdowns in the produce cooler because I would crumble if I saw anything that could bring potential complaints from the bosses next morning. I was a wreck. 🤣 I literally constantly moved the whole shift because I was scared I never accomplished enough. @MougyWolf

The fact that it gives me a bad stutter and my hands shake and become clammy and I feel like everyone knows I’m freaking out and I feel like everyone is staring at me.

@SW-User I use to hate that I thought everyone could see me cringing and slightly trembling. I thought everybody could see and read my body language so clearly. It made me feel like I was literally in the spotlight and I was making an ass of myself, but at the same time struggling to control it.

@Thebestof1995 Yeah and it’s horrible feeling :/ it doesn’t happen too often anymore but that sensation never fails to me feel like an idiot

I agree overthinking is a big one ... anxiety will trick is and have us trying to believe we're bad, we didn't do it right, we didn't do enough etc. The thoughts spiral. Sometimes when I KNOW I'm overthinking I'll say Blank! So that my mind just stops for a few. It has helped many times. But the worst for me is heart palpitations. I don't get often but when they do it feels AWFUL or like you're going to die. I get them talking about my past trauma, so now I'm even avoiding therapy so I don't get them. They fucking suckkkk. I don't accept dates because I get so hyped up or nervous I'm afraid I'll get palps.😕 I'm trying soooo hard to overcome them.

Panic. I don't know if I'd even categorize it with anxiety since they're so different, but they call them "anxiety attacks"; but, feeling like you're about to literally die for 10-45 minutes, multiple times a day is pretty bad.

So yeah. I'd say that's the worst thing about anxiety. When it culminates into a supercharged, condensed version of anxiety to the point where you feel on death's door.

I hear ya. Sometimes when I had panic attacks I use to think I was going to eventually go into cardiac arrest I’d get so scared. I’m very embarrassed now but there was 2-3 times over the past handful of years I asked my mother to bring me to the ER. @Tatsumi
Tatsumi · 31-35, M
@Thebestof1995 Well, don't feel embarrassed, because I'm pretty tough mentally, but I did the same thing October 14th. That was a good $7,000 bill. They can make you think you're really about to die.

Do you not have them anymore?
Thebestof1995 · 26-30, F
I’m lucky if I have a severe panic attack once a year now. My anxiety has calmed quite a bit in the past couple years. @Tatsumi

For me my chest tightens and I get tingles in the back of my neck which make me jumpy/panicy
midnightsun · 26-30, M
We feel anxious about being anxious.
Coralmist · 41-45, F
@midnightsun YES. It sucks

Most of the time I have the filter on extra thorough so I am doing-millions of considerations regarding how to say something-as I say it. It can get exhausting.
Holdontothefire · 26-30, M
When I panic in the middle of saying something because I'm worried about how the other person will take it. I get so caught up in it.
Thebestof1995 · 26-30, F
All. The. Time. 😞🙌🏻@Holdontothefire

I've done that many times. I've even done it with responses here. You can second guess yourself too much. I try not to as much as possible, but I still do it some.

Same. I always tried to speak wisely and when I am thinking too much, the words came out from my mouth is very cringe and sounds rude.
Lostpoet · M
Not being able to talk and having people think you are special is the worst feeling.
SW-User
@Lostpoet what's that mean?
NativeOregonian · 51-55
Feeling like I am having a cardiac event.
