Is it most often best to be encouraging or brutally honest with yourself and others?

I dont find these to be seperate. They go together. If You care you will be honest and there to encourage them at the same time.

Well no, they are two different things. But they go hand in hand. Or they should at least, with yourself or with someone you care about.

@SW-User I think,I'm probably conflating encouraging with "soft" and Honest with "stern" which is obviously a mistake.

My thinking is that a situation might arise wherein either ones self or a friend were not responsive to encouragement, but where honesty might do more harm than good.

This is the stuff I think about at night.
