I keep myself busy with activities that requires a lot of mental attention. Sometimes it work, sometimes it doesn't.

From the movie Out of Africa:

KARIN: I've got this little thing that I've learned to do lately. When it gets so bad, and I think I can't go on, I try to make it worse. I make myself think about our camp on the river, and Berkeley, and the first time that you took me flying. How good it all was. And when I'm certain that I can't stand it, I go one moment more. And then I know I can bear anything.
@LyricalOne Laughing. The Frank Lloyd (why does Lloyd need two L's?) Wright Fallingwater house dimensions aren't dramatically bigger. Humans were shrimpy, fairly recently.

@Mamapolo2016 Now that’s still on my list of places to see. Didn’t think it was that small. Been to his spread in Scottsdale, that was nice.
@LyricalOne the setting is beautiful, worth going just for that...the house growing organically out of the rock. The rooms are small by the standards of today's homes and I don't think a person 5'10" could sleep comfortably in the beds.
Just recalled this, and it seemed so hokey beforehand. In rehab for alcohol, a counselor had me write a letter to a person who had been instrumental during an unpleasant period in my life. 'Just write it the way you would if you could say everything you want to say.'

I did that. Then she had me visualize the person in question sitting silently in a chair in front of me and had me read the letter aloud to the invisible person. Finally, she told me to visualize that person standing up silently and walking out of the room, out of my head and out of my life.

I wouldn't have believed it could be effective, but it was.

I do not think it possible and they're just going to have to stay there till the oltimers disease catches up with me.
They say ev’rything can be replaced
Yet ev’ry distance is not near
So I remember ev’ry face
Of ev’ry man who put me here
I see my light come shining
From the west unto the east
Any day now, any day now
I shall be released

@SW-User The saving grace is I have an emotional filter just as a faucet might have a water filter. The emotional toxins are removed but the memories remain
SW-User
@bookerdana that is probably the healthiest coping mechanism. Filtering toxins.

@SW-User My subconscious knows more than I do about these thing😛s! Sure I can pine about something that happened five years ago but really,"There'll be new dreams maybe better dreams and plenty
Before the last revolving year is through"-Joni Mitchell
SW-User
I only store them, they may prove useful for not repeating the same mistakes.
SW-User
@SW-User Fair point.
Longpatrol · 31-35, M
I forget shit 5 minutes after I hear it. My brain autocleanses itself from bullshit.
SW-User
@Longpatrol Wow, lol. I need a brain like yours.
Flenflyys · 31-35, F
Convince myself that I was right in that memory and the other person is a dick
SW-User
@Flenflyys LOL that works.
mindstruggle · 31-35, F
Definitely not by repressing it. I just tell myself with confidence, “fcuk it!”. And just accept it and move on. Can’t change what happened anyway.
mindstruggle · 31-35, F
@SW-User
Easier said then done, though. 😆 the struggle is friggin real.
SW-User
@mindstruggle Hahaha. But it's still awareness that counts. :D
mindstruggle · 31-35, F
@SW-User
Correct! 😌
I try to add daydreams and new memories.
@SW-User
Memories will never go totally. But we can do an effort not to keep them top of mind. 😊
SW-User
@SapphicHeart I have a sieve of a memory at times. I tend to just forget things but remember the feeling from it.
@SW-User
There will be various ways of memorizing, and even unconsciously our body and mind will uptake such memories for future reactions/feelings in similar situations. The triggers will be individual as the memories.
Rokasu · 36-40, M
Uhh, I kind of do that naturally. Though anything I don’t want to remember, I tend not to.
SW-User
@Rokasu Ai see. Just never retain things eh? :P
Rokasu · 36-40, M
@SW-User Depends on what it is and whether I care or not 😊
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
I forget so much already that I can't remember all the things I had forgot.
SW-User
@Thevy29 LOL.
juiceyangel333 · 31-35, F
My brain actually tends to forget things as a way to move on
SW-User
@juiceyangel333 I have a similar way. I don't do it on purpose. It just happens.
juiceyangel333 · 31-35, F
@SW-User me too . I think it's helpful
Sroonaka616 · 31-35, M
Recreate the situation so that I win or the outcome was positive.
SW-User
@Sroonaka616 Interesting.
SW-User
Through time, although it's not voluntary. I prefer to keep them all.
SW-User
@SW-User Nice
Equanimous · 51-55, M
Age :) But I seem to retain most of them.
SW-User
@Equanimous :P You're not even that old as you like to brag.
Equanimous · 51-55, M
@SW-User Oh, I forget that. 😛
SW-User
@Experienced33 interesting choice
@SW-User mostly temporarily tho...
SW-User
@Experienced33 that's the best way.
SW-User
idk never tried
SW-User
@SW-User Oh. You retain all your memories?
SW-User
@SW-User no my memory is terrible. i just don't dwell on it.
SW-User
I add new memories and some of the old ones move away...

@SW-User My brain's too obsessive for that. :P
SW-User
@UndeadPrivateer LOL. Very interesting. :P
Honeylove · 46-50, F
Time and exhaustion.
SW-User

SW-User
@InOtterWords Oh dear
