I have been called negative. Part of it is the aversion (or lack of understanding) many have to critical thinking these days. Part of it is training and old work habits. For 40 years I was paid to anticipate the worst, and prepare contingencies for them.

I'd say all of it but to be very specific... My great love of isolation. I am extremely warm and approachable, can be outgoing, have a fairly ambivert thing going on but given the choice I will almost always choose to be by myself. I really enjoy my own company and don't require any outside attention or interaction whatsoever. I have never experienced boredom and have a blast all by myself.

The issue with this. While I do have friends and acquaintances, they will sometimes either worry or even take offense to the fact that I don't seek attention like they assume I should which leads them to believe I don't like them or don't want their friendship or don't care about them when it's not the case at all. And many more things.

It can make it hard to relate.

@DancingStarGoddess reading this feels like looking in a mirror. I have only male friends for this very reason. They don't worry or take offense because of my solitude. They don't pressure me like women do. Their presence doesn't feel intrusive. They could care less if I go out as long as I'm okay, that's all they need to know. Their roles are more protective, comedian, confidant, and therapist, a shoulder, and an earpiece. they ride in the backseat of my life, they are in the background. whereas the women in my life wanted to be the driver's and the mouthpiece, if that makes sense. When The only driver in my life, is me.

All of it. I am a handsome amalgamation of a myriad of different ideas and philosophical concepts taken from different cultures, traditions and time periods.

While the vast breadth of humanity thinks generally in terms of stereotypes. People usually judge me based on whichever stereotype they think I am or they will piss me off. I am not a stereotype, I am a person whom draws ideas from many different people, places, perspectives and cultures. I think, genuinely, places and people get better with more cultures and perspectives the merrier, and that’s one of the ways I live. I think if people are genuinely interested in other cultures and want to share they should be allowed to say and think in ways that are not native to their heritage.

Its hard being around a certain relative because no matter what I do to be kind, I get info from others that he nik pics everything about me. I have done a lot for him but its not good enough. Id love to banish him from my life to stop being hurt but can't. 🤦🏼‍♀
HumanEarth · F
I feel pressured to conform to societal norms, which often don't reflect who I truly am. This can lead to misunderstandings and conflicts about how I express myself.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@HumanEarth I can empathize with this one. It's similar to my being argumentative.

I don't go along with the crowd easily. Yet not quietly either.
Cigarguy · 41-45, M
My anxiety people think because I get anxious I can't handle something. I can I just to process it my way and it might be different then the way most people do it
JustNik · 51-55, F
I’m quiet, reserved, and skittish. Most people take that as rejection of some kind, but really all I need is patience. 🤷‍♀ It’s not a mystery why I don’t socialize outside my family.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
That I am argumentative.

Being argumentative isn't necessarily a bad thing and it's never personal with me.

This can be shown by the fact that I never have blocked anyone, in the nine years, of being on this site.
DearAmbellina2113 · 41-45, F
My bad luck.

Just last night, my ex said to me, "You know, when most people say they have bad luck, it's usually because they made poor choices and don't want to take accountability. But you... You're probably the only one I've ever met who makes all the right choices and still gets fkd in the end."

I never felt more validated in my life.

Some people think I'm a maths and physics nerd, and my life is controlled by well-thought-out, conscious decisions.
But in fact that's not the truth; I'm much more emotional than people think I am.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@helenS Even my half brother only would do 16 years difference. Mom's first husband was only 15 years difference.
helenS · 36-40, F
@DeWayfarer See? It isn't unusual!
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@helenS The point is, the further apart the harder it is. My half brother's wife only lasted 13 years.

I'm not against age gap relationships. Yet there does come a point where it's unworkable.

I need to be ALONE most of the time. I enjoy my neighbors, but I am definitely not a lounge lizard, and I don't like to hang out in the lobby just to hang out.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
People think I'm phlegmatic and don't care when in fact there's a lot of anxiety and frustration in me.

I think my personality comes out quite clearly most of the time. I am a people pleaser and like to be led.
Probably the way that I communicate.

Sometimes people think they are misunderstood when often they are the ones who don't understand themselves..

The part that is "Me," in my entirety.
My upbringing by Eastern European psycho parents. No excuses or complaints, but since the question was asked 🤷🏻‍♂.
