Nothing wrong with being a hopeless romantic, and it gives you a standard do you won’t settle for less.
I’m much in the same position after years of being a caretaker things have gone beyond the handyman stage to contractor stage. Wish I could help you out some but unfortunately I’m almost overwhelmed here.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with being a hopeless romantic, if for no other reason that it gives the hope and feel-good vibes of what could one day be.
A couple of days back mine discovered a leak under the sink and decided to fix it himself, a mistake I knew would turn into a thing. And it did. I had to spend half of my day repairing his mistake.
He tries and I can’t fault him for that. I just wish he wouldn’t take on tasks he has little knowledge of because it ends up being something I have to take over, and oftentimes I have other plans in mind for how I want to spend my time.
Rant over.

I wouldn’t call that sad because there’s nothing wrong with being a hopeless romantic. You’re allowed to give yourself some grace here.
I think all of us want some element of that, whether it’s to have someone help tackle DIY stuff around the house, or go camping for a weekend, enjoy tailgating at college football games, or even go antique shopping for something else to add to the stuff we have.
I’ve learned most of my things from google and YouTube, albeit I have some knowledge of how to fix some stuff… regardless of what my friends will say. But I stay away from major plumbing and dropping electricity lines haha.
Best of luck in finding that handyman for help. You got this.
