Dreadful toothache!

I've had toothache since Friday, getting worse daily.....pretty sure its an abcess. I managed to get an energency dental app. today. It cost me £125, plus £20 for 2 lots of antibiotics. I was given the choice to remove the tooth, at a cost of £168 or to try to save it...root canal treatment costing just shy of £1000!
Im going back Wednesday morning to have it removed. The dentist gave me a number of numbing injections to help with the pain....but boy oh boy.....the pain was unbareable when they wore off! After taking all my meds i went to bed but woke on dreadful pain an hour later. Ive literally been crying and screaming in pain.
I took more pain relief, but im now itching all over....a reaction to the codiene.... so....i've now taken antihystimine too.
The only thing thats given me any relief is a bag of frozen peas on the side of my face. ....its also given relief from the itching on my legs.

So.....im finally temporarilly painfree and nheading back to bed......see how long before i'm woken with pain again.

I had an abscess last month too! I feel your pain!! Constant alternating between Tylonal 3's with Codiene and Ibuprofen 600mg and using 3 different bags of frozen peas around the clock, while on antibiotics! I suffered for a week and one day before they gave me a root canal! I wanted to pull my tooth but they insisted that I get a root canal because I was still young! I was lucky to have borrowed my sons bank card before I went because I didn't have enough coverage for the whole shabing cause I had two cavities filled and the root canal and a bunch of x rays, and freezing and polishing! I was at the dentist since 9:00 AM until 1:30PM!!! I was lucky to have 100% dental coverage because they still charged me an extra $370.00 on top of my full coverage, and my son foot the bill for me, so I'm slowly paying him back $130.00 each month!

@saintsong instead of Tylenol 3's, try stacking 2 extra strength Tylenol with a extra strength Advil, same painkilling effect as a T3, without the narcotic effects

Ah, poor Ruby I am so sorry for you Luv, and I think pulling the tooth is your best option. I have heard some friends say they had terrible side effects from root canals causing them more sickness and few cancers developed because the infection stayed trapped in the root canal.

I am no dentist or doctor, but I dang sure would have gone with the pulling too.

@TexChik im sure it is. Last night, for about 10 mins, it felt like a glass had exploded in my mouth....intense shooting pains in the roof of my mouth and the left side....horrendous. after holding a bag if frozen.peas on it for galf hour...i realised the pain had gone! So it deffo 'popped'.bitter taste in mouth all day today, but the trigger tooth isnt hurting at all. My cheek is, its swollen and I can't open my mouth far.
I must have faith the denist will do whats right.( its not my dentist...hes on holiday!)

They usually won't work on a tooth that is still full of infection... Hopefully your abscess resolves soon! I feel your pain, I was there last month!
OMG, I hope this gets resolved and you're out of pain soon.
Toothaches are so bad. And it sounds like you've got a whopper.
All the best with this. AND SOON. 🙏

I can actually FEEL your pain. I went through something similar when the root of an old root canal procedure literally broke in my mouth. I had the lousiest dental insurance in the freaking WORLD, through Tufts health insurance, and before I could get help I had to wait for more than a month in agony.

I took so many ibuprofen that I turned my ONE ulcer into THREE.

I, too, had the tooth pulled.
Head pain is the worst. Hoping you feel better, Ruby. Sending a boatload of healing vibes your way.

Can you go to emergencies?
saintsong · 41-45, F
@Arantxa They would want the antibiotics to kick in first, which takes about a week.
RubySoo · 56-60, F
@saintsong i did get an emergency app with the dentist, yes.
SubstantialKick · 36-40, M
