No way would I keep anything.
TexChik · F
I found one once gassing up while on a trip right next to the pump . It had $1700 and a few credit cards and an uncashed paycheck for $1350. I got my assistant to call ( gave her the DL) and his father called me back . His son had dropped it and was panicking . He didn’t live far from the farm and came to us to get it . They were happy and tried to pay me . I refused and so I get a Christmas card each year from them

I've come across wallets like that. I couldn't either. I'd love the extra money but my conscience would eat me alive
GovanDUNNY · M
Hand on heart .a few years ago I found a pink purse in Asda car park stuffed with £20 notes and cards easily£ 1000 I handed it straight to security
NovaNine · 56-60, M
@GovanDUNNY That's quite the sum.
GovanDUNNY · M
@NovaNine it was around the Xmas shopping week time
Eddiesolds · 61-69, M
No i wouldn't
eyeno · M
I've contemplated that question years ago. When I find a wallet I dont look inside...the temptation would be to great so, I'll just return it.

SW-User
@eyeno If you find it on the street how do you know where to return it if you don't look inside?
eyeno · M
@SW-User one way would just take it to the Police Station..👍
What they do with it is there problem.

No, I would take the wallet to it's rightful owner along with however much money (if any) is still contained therein.
PoetryNEmotion · F
It would be wrong to keep it. Likely the person who lost it is panicking and needs it badly.
NovaNine · 56-60, M
@PoetryNEmotion Whole life's in that thing.

Nope. My dad once found a gentleman's wallet in a department store restroom. It had fallen out I guess. It was stuffed full of credit cards and several hundred dollars. My dad picked it up and wandered around until he found a man, white as a sheet, looking around frantically for something. He matched the ID in the wallet so my dad returned it to him. The man was so grateful he insisted on giving my dad $50 for helping him.
No I wouldn't keep it .. Its situations like this that make me realise how appreciative I would be if ..it were me who had lost my purse.
Which I have done in the past. It's not just the money, although it very well might be the case if the owner had firm plans for using it.
I recall losing a new phone on a day out with my children.
We were moving around the venue taking photos & looking at interesting things .
When I suddenly realised I must have put my phone down & forgotten it for a minute.
It was popular model I didn't think I'd see it again. Well you could of knocked me over with a feather when a man came over phone in hand and said " I think you left this over there"
I was happy..he saved me a lot of bother.
Temptation is an ugly sin
🙂 Giving back is the right thing to do .. you should give yourself a pat on the back. 🍓

Next time return it and tell no one.
It appears self serving otherwise.

@Budwick I didn't see it as self serving at all. He admitted he was tempted and that he has since been considering the moral position in this safe forum.

@SW-User
OK, that's your opinion. Thank you.
So, why do you suppose he brought it up here?

I found a wallet on the front nine of my local golf course and returned it to its rightful owner at the turn. It's a good feeling. The back nine was my lowest ever. Coincidence? Most likely.
Iwillwait · M
I am glad you resisted the temptation and did the right thing.
GOD is pleased too, along with all The Angela & Saints.

No. I would try to ensure the wallet and all its contents were returned to the rightful owner.
cd4259 · 61-69, M
Never have yet and not likely to either.
Piper · 61-69, F
I would not, for the same reason you didn't. That does not mean I wouldn't, however briefly, consider doing so, if I were desperately in need of the cash. I doubt if I would even think of keeping it, but I really can't say...for sure.
Torsten · 36-40, M
i have come across cash on ground and in the atm cash draw thing before. Not going to lie, i pocketed it. That is loose cash though. A wallet is a diff story. I would see about returning it if there was Id and so on in it

SW-User
If there's not much cash then it will make only a small difference to your life for a day but hopefully will hurt your conscience for much longer.
If there's a lot then you know how distressing the loss would be for the owner.

Never

Think of it in reverse, you lost a wallet with some cash in it. A kind anonymous soul gets it back to you but the money's gone. How would you feel about that?
NovaNine · 56-60, M
@BrewCityBarfly I'd be mad
GerOttman · 61-69, M
Oddly enough, I have found three of them over the years. Got all 3 back to their rightful owners with cash intact!
Eddiesolds · 61-69, M
Thats stealing
NovaNine · 56-60, M
@Eddiesolds I know but the temptation was very strong.
Eddiesolds · 61-69, M
@NovaNine Yes it was. You should be proud of yourself.
I like your honesty. I wouldn't take it but I also might be tempted, though I know I wouldn't pocket it in the end. I'd have no problem taking it if it was the wallet of some CEO of a ruthless corporation though.
NovaNine · 56-60, M
@Angelwarfare Down with the man.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
I have found wallets on the job and turned them in to the student or the office’s lost & found.
meggie · F
No. It's a terrible feeling losing your wallet.
PhoenixPhail · M
I'm glad you didn't take it.

SW-User
Right now as broke as I am.. I’d take it
NovaNine · 56-60, M
@SW-User I wouldn't blame you.
TheOneyouwerewarnedabout · 46-50, MVIP

iamnikki · 31-35, F
No I would not

Atlotto · M
I've found several, so far. All the owners received all their belongings.
