You're supposed to give thanks to God for every good and bad (thats permitted). God loves hearts that can forget their self-love and pride and be full of Thanksgiving despite everything.

That's not the point at all. God doesn't favor one person over the other, that's false. We should be grateful when God does things for us.
IM5688 · 61-69, M
@LadyGrace Actually, God always does things for us, (even though we may not be aware of it at the time,) and we should thank him every day. Personally, I thank God every day in my prayers before I ask Him to hear my prayers and requests.
I sometimes hear people saying that God doesn't answer their prayers. I say to them, What have you done for God? When was the last time you spoke to God without asking Him for something?
Think of it this way, Not thanking someone is being rude, so why are you being rude to God?
@IM5688 Exactly.
We don't think ourselves more special than others. The Bible says to give thanks to God for all things. And to love everyone. There's not one thing wrong with that. We should be grateful for everything we have, and when we are, it is okay to give voice to that, without being ridiculed.

None of us deserve anything. We are all with sin, and none any better than the other. But God loved us enough, anyway, to provide for those who wish to allow Jesus to save them from the condemnation that sin placed on all of us, salvation in Christ. He loves you just as much as he loves me. He does not categorize his love for people. He loves us all the same and he died to save the whole world, not just some.

No. There is nothing "special" to any person, God doesn't do "special". There just are people who live their lives more conscious of the fact that God exists and are with them every moment of their lives and they see the hand of God at work in their daily lives. They are more aware of who they really are (wicked, sinful, totally dependent) and so praise God and give Him honor whether things go well or not. For example: They will thank God just for waking up in the morning and not dying in their sleep, they will thank God for food on their tables and even thank Him just for Who He is. It is called they have a spirit of humbleness, thankfulness and respect, and are not ashamed to witness or give glory to Him publicly. It's not bragging, it's proclaiming God as God.

i find it interesting Christians treat their god like a wishing well and just want and want and want.
Makes me wonder if they just wish for a genie and not a god.

Also while im at it. How is Jesus going to die for everyones sins before those sins are even done? it all makes no sense to me

plus it's only when something good happens. you'd be equally justified in saying Thank God for genocide, disease, etc...

divine intervention in the literal holy land might be appreciated right now but no you help that one guy find his keys so he can get to work in time. thanks god
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
The Christian perspective is that we don't 'deserve' any good thing from God and when something 'good' does happen to us we say thank you much like a child says thank you for a gift.

@SandWitch orthodox = right faith. Holds that mankind is utterly corrupt and undeserving of any mercy or grace from God an thus God's overwhelming Grace and Mercy is His gift for us.

Its wonderful to thank the higher power, and show gratitude towards the great scheme of things (which could be God) when somethings work out for you. There are some people who do this more often than others. Those people are the ones who are chosen by God, because they recognize who he is, and his value in their life. Yes, in that sense, you are one of the chosen few, and the rest are all ... well, they do whatever they feel like (herd mentality)

We are all meant to be grateful to God for everything we have, even if it isn’t much.

We thank Him for the good, because it reminds us of His great Mercy toward us.

We thank Him for the bad, because it reminds us of our great need for Him.

@SW-User hi god is a false concept and cannot be male of female
SW-User
@zonavar68 that’s nice, dear
the do not thank the farmer at grace
they do not thank the doctor who dedicated their life to learning to heal
they do not thank those who are worthy of thanking
they thank an Invisible Silent Primate in the sky
I think for the most part it's something people say without thinking about it. I say it all the time and I'm not religious. I give it zero thought.

Yes there should be a March on Washington demanding more great things to say Thank God about for people that don't deserve it!
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
It's not a win-lose contest. Everyone is worthy of God's blessings.
Adstar · 56-60, M
That's a really twisted way of thinking..

Personally i pray to God for a lot of things with the idea that maybe sometimes my will and His will shall be in alignment and my prayer will be granted.. It has nothing to do with feeling chosen or special.. It's just a person accessing an avenue that sometimes provides a better outcome in life..

When Israel was in the wilderness they forgot to thank and praise God. It led them to complain and worship idols of gold.

makes you wonder who they should be thanking when something awful happens

whenever i say it, it's just an expression. but i've heard people who sincerely give their god credit
pancakeslam · 41-45, M
@WhisperinAngelic101 yeah but the Lord of the flies deserves it. 😆
@SW-User When bad things happen, we still thank God. Not for the bad in particular, but because there are always still things to be thankful for even through the bad.

@Colonelmustardseed that is so gosh darn sweet

Oh they will just blame the devil in the bad cases. God does the good things and the devil does the bad things. Yet God is all good yet created the devil. But the devil is to blame for existing? No one is ever responsible for their own actions. But fRee wiLL...

Going 'oh my god' is the most cringeworthy thing around at the moment. I prefer to upset the apple cart and go 'holy shit' only because I hate religion not because I believe I can fly.
