God wants a 'Relationship'?

Over the years, mainly online, I've come across many Christians who have said that "God wants a relationship with you", or words to that effect. Um... excuse me? What? Seriously?
Now maybe my inability to understand this idea is due to the fact that when it has come to relationships in real life I haven't exactly been all that successful, or it could simply be that I'm just not interpreting correctly whatever it is they're trying to tell me, and the message is going right over my head, or in some other way getting scrambled.
However, assuming that they actually mean what they say, and they mean it literally, I have to admit that this makes no sense whatsoever, and is, quite frankly, rather naive, narcissistic and rather bizarre. The creator of the entire universe (i.e. all of reality as we know it) wouldn't care about the minor details to the extent that He (or She - whatev) would stoop so low as to, for example, answer prayers.
I mean, seriously, do you care about the ants on the concrete you walk all over when you're on your way to the local shops? Does a microbiologist want a "relationship" with the microbes under his or her microscope?
God loves to create. He created the universe and all things in it.

[c=BF0000]Colossians 1:16-17- For by Him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by Him, and for Him: and He is before all things, and by Him all things consist.[/c]

There are many people that don't understand that God wants a relationship and fellowship with us, but indeed, we are His crown creation. Stoop so low as to answer our prayers? Oh yes. But he doesn't look at it as condescending to us even though he is King of the universe. He looks at it as an honor and privilege and blessing to fellowship with us through prayer. He loves to give us good things.

[c=BF0000]Psalm 8:3, 6 "When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,
The moon and the stars, which You have ordained;
What is man that You take thought of him,
And the son of man that You care for him?
Yet You have made him a little lower than God,
And You crown him with glory and majesty!
You make him to rule over the works of Your hands;
You have put all things under his feet."[/c]

The next verse shows that God does care about our lives, just as an earthly father cares about his children/family and wants to interact with them:

He knows each and every intricate detail about us. He knows exactly how many hairs you have on your head.

[c=BF0000]Luke 12:7 - But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.[/c]

God Is so aware of His creations, He knows each time a sparrow falls to the ground and when one of our hairs falls to the ground.

What does God do when your crying?

[c=BF0000]The God of all comfort keeps watch over your weeping. He gathers up all your tears and puts them in his bottle (Psalm 56:8).[/c]

Does God hear when you cry?

[c=BF0000]I am aware of their sufferings” (Exodus 3:7). Just as God saw and heard the Hebrew's cry,He hears yours, too. He is aware of your affliction and suffering.[/c]

He hears our cries of unhappiness, pain, frustration, exhaustion, and fear. We can be honest with Him. His listening ear is always open to our prayers. His loving heart wants to embrace us as we cry on His shoulder. God cares more than you can comprehend. His lovingkindness is good. Honesty in prayer is absolutely essential if one is to develop a deeper relationship with God.

How much does He love you and me....the world?

[c=BF0000]John 3:16-17
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son [Jesus], that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.[/c]

He not only said he loves us; he proved it on the cross. He came to save us from the condemnation that sin placed on us. Otherwise we would have all perished and God is not willing that any perish, but have everlasting life through His Son, Jesus Christ. Who do you know that loves you that much? Jesus gave his all for us.

He also came to give us life more abundantly. And at the end of our journey, he promises to give us eternal life with him in heaven.

God IS the creator of the entire universe...and HE created humans, among other things. He actually DOES love us.

You, imagining that God sees us as ants on the sidewalk...that is YOU trying to put your own feelings into a deity so awesome you can't imagine Who or WHAT He is.

God DOES love us, and made us in His OWN image. He is our FATHER.

If you Imagine a FATHER who doesn't love His own children, you don't know God.

It's never going to make sense to anyone unless faith is involved.

@IamCuriousBabe Yes, I agree. Faith, a deep trust in Reality. Then all Reality can be "revelation". And the "sense" is ours alone, not to be imposed upon others except through acts of mercy, love and compassion.

I understand your questioning this, however GOD does love you. Yes, you, the little non essessential feeling tiny matter in the universe whom HE Created with a Purpose. You are more important to Him than you are to your own biological family.
@Iwillwait And you know this how?
Iwillwait · M
@Bellatrix2083 For it is written in the Bible and by personal experience.

I was an "Atheist," for the majority of my life and had several encounters that I can only describe as "God Moments," which finally convinced me that there is "Heavenly Father," and he does love and care enough about me to let me know through a very hardened heart.

Not so long ago I would debate anyone that God was not real.

Now I know I was so wrong and so foolish, so angry and so hurt.
@Iwillwait you are greatly loved by the father! Oh yes!
Yes! He wants to know you and you know him. Fellowship with God! That’s exactly what he wants.
A relationship with God carries us beyond simply obeying external rules of right and wrong.

Jesus invites us, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest…learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”
@Bellatrix2083 I'm sorry I don't understand what you mean? God is a real person.
@LadyGrace How can God be a person? People are born, have serious flaws, evolve, die, are limited in physical space, can't be in more than one location at a time; in other words are what the theologians call 'contingent'. God must, of necessity, be non-contingent or necessary.
@Bellatrix2083 yes but that's people's limited thinking. Humans limited thinking. We cannot put a limit on God because he is Limitless and Way Beyond what we could imagine. However he is a real person and nothing is impossible for God. He saved my daughter from dying when all the nurses and the doctors said there was nothing more they could do to save her. They told her she would be dead in a week. All her organs were shutting down already so there was nothing they could do, and death seemed certain, but we are a Praying family and we pray to God and believed him for a miracle and that's exactly what we got. He healed her and she still alive to this day and that happened about 5 years ago. I even have records and pictures to prove it. There's no way she could have lived unless God helped her. We shouldn't limit God.

We have a relationship with Reality.

I knew you couldn’t let that go!
It was obvious that you totally misunderstood the word “apology” in the context it was used.
I will make myself available for the college words that are four syllables or more in case you need help buddy. 😗

@Pfuzylogic Hi. Do you really think someone totally at home with such words as hermeneutics, and who has read parts of Christian Apologetic works by those such as C.S.Lewis and G. K. Chesterton was not actually aware of what you were alluding to?

Really, you do need to learn that you are not always right. Especially in thinking of yourself as being of "the" truth.

I will not respond again. You appear only interested in seeking to demean and accuse and not in any attempt at adult discussion. You have not even acknowledged, let alone answered, any points I have sought to make. Another example of Christian hubris that is blind to itself.

@SW-User
Let me pay you on the back.
Yes you did use that very big word and you managed to impress me.
I’m not sure if you know it’s meaning but it’s a start buddy!

To say that god wants or needs anything from us is complete blasphemy. God is the beginning and the end. The creator of everything. The Christian god as I understand is a loving and gentle god… we are not ants… we humans no matter our race or beliefs even those who deny his existence are his beloved children. God will bring good things into your life if you will seek god out. God will make the best of the most horrible situations. God will speak to the heart of the most evil and vile and hopeless. God will grant mercy to those who do not deserve it. God is unexplainable and wonderful beyond description.

Do not be deceived by those who misunderstand god or those who claim to understand god perfectly.

If anyone will open their heart to god and trust that god alone will love them and guide them and save them they will find a comfort and peace and everlasting life.

I am a scoundrel and continue to sin… I have made many mistakes… and if I can write words like these without preparation what other explanation can their be that among my many wrongs mistakes and poor choices I have heard if not completely listened or understood the intention of god.

Why wouldn't a creator care about the details of their creation?
JPWhoo · 36-40, MVIP
We’re not ants or microbes to God, we’re his children. He made us.
Domking · 61-69, M
"Awww c'mon, if one wants a relationship then one has to work for it - let Him (or Her) work for it" would be my reply. 😜

Actually, what they mean is "I want you to go prostrate yourself before something I worship" !!
Allelse · 36-40, M
If god is all powerful then why would he need to rest on the 7th day?
Monalisaa1986 · 36-40, F
@Allelse well he needs his sleep
CestManan · 46-50, F
@Allelse Well yeah he rested on the 7th day, the game was on TV.
Thing is, what does God yell when his team is losing? He cannot really say "God damn it!" can he?

@Monalisaa1986 Very direct and true. 😄
@Allelse Creating a universe is really hard work! 🥱

He also created us. Each one of us. He cares about us. And a relationship with another Living Being but on a whole different level
Pfuzylogic · M
And then there is salvation given to us through a person that we can welcome in our life.
Honestly Prayer would have no meaning if it wasn’t us communicating to our creator that can be known.
Man people that don’t believe consider church a religion that they can pawn off to a god that can not be personally known.

Jesus allows God to be knowable and understandable.

obvious troll
@SW-User Troll? What? Whatever gave you that idea? How am I a "troll"? Explain.
SW-User
@Bellatrix2083 you really need to get a life
@SW-User Actually no, I don't, because I already have a life, and it's fantastic! Now explain why you think I'm a "troll". Is it because I actually ask questions that no one else wants to, that I challenge people's thoughtless beliefs? That's not "being a troll", that's just who I am. I accept nothing at face value, and you and everyone else here should do the same. Things aren't as they appear.
zonavar68 · 51-55, M
God the false sky fairy entity named to be a quasi-human penis projecting male by god-fearing humans as a figurehead for man made doctrines of scripture and religions can simply GGF! if God still tries to hit on me then God is gay.
@zonavar68 "...sky fairy entity..."
I've got news for you; no one believes in 'sky fairies' apart from atheists who think, for reasons known only to themselves, that that's what theists believe. Strawman fallacy. Try harder next time to make a valid, or even semi-coherent, point. 😂
Applepiedom · 56-60, M
Wow, there's a lot to explain about GOD.
SW-User
@Applepiedom Unfortunately it is often the attempted explanations that start all the arguments and conflict.
@Applepiedom Give it your best shot anyway. You could start by explaining why the source of all there is would even bother with us mere humans in the first place.
Applepiedom · 56-60, M
@Bellatrix2083 can I dm you about it?
carnallcpl · 26-30, C
He needs to be left alone for sometime. We are invading his time and space too much
Does a human want a relationship with cats?
IamCuriousBabe · 51-55, F
@ImperialAerosolKidFromEP Cats think they are gods. Hahaha

But I like the thought process behind this.
