God wants a 'Relationship'?

Over the years, mainly online, I've come across many Christians who have said that "God wants a relationship with you", or words to that effect. Um... excuse me? What? Seriously?
Now maybe my inability to understand this idea is due to the fact that when it has come to relationships in real life I haven't exactly been all that successful, or it could simply be that I'm just not interpreting correctly whatever it is they're trying to tell me, and the message is going right over my head, or in some other way getting scrambled.
However, assuming that they actually mean what they say, and they mean it literally, I have to admit that this makes no sense whatsoever, and is, quite frankly, rather naive, narcissistic and rather bizarre. The creator of the entire universe (i.e. all of reality as we know it) wouldn't care about the minor details to the extent that He (or She - whatev) would stoop so low as to, for example, answer prayers.
I mean, seriously, do you care about the ants on the concrete you walk all over when you're on your way to the local shops? Does a microbiologist want a "relationship" with the microbes under his or her microscope?

We have a relationship with Reality.

Sure thing dharma 😜
SW-User
@Pfuzylogic Well, who could argue with that?

😀

@SW-User
dharma is a religious term
SW-User
@Pfuzylogic Yes, I know. The Dharma is actually the correct name for "Buddhism" (which is a Western term, which loves its "isms" and "oligies" and putting things in boxes)
Pfuzylogic · M
yes and finger pointing adds so much to “reality”
SW-User
@Pfuzylogic Well, our conceptual formulations tend to congeal, then we hit others around the head with them. A good game if you like that sort of thing.
Pfuzylogic · M
@SW-User
Hence Dharma is not more reality based than Christianity
SW-User
@Pfuzylogic In a sense, yes, I agree. But the parable of the raft in the Theravada texts speaks of the Dharma as a raft, for crossing over, not for grasping. Therefore, the Dharma as "means" not an end in itself.

@Pfuzylogic Just to add before I leave McDonalds, a quote (how I love them! They stop me having to think for myself......😀) from another...

The dharma, can be discovered through the Buddhist tradition, but Buddhism is by no means the only source of dharma. I would define dharma as anything that awakens the enlightened mind and brings on the direct experience of selflessness. The teachings of Christ are prefumed with dharma. There is dharma in jazz, in beautiful gardens, in literature, in Sufi dance, in Quaker silence, in shaman healing, in projects to care for the homeless and clean up the inner cities, in Catholic ritual, in meaningful and competent work. There is dharma in anything that causes us to respect the innate softness and intelligence of ourselves and others. When the Buddhist system is applied properly, it does not turn us inward toward our own organizations, practices, and ideas. The system has succeeded when the Buddhist can recognize the true dharma at the core of all other religions and disciplines that are based on respect for the human image, and has no need to reject them.

So, the Dharma is the "only way". Such an "only way" understood in a life giving way.

But must go. Coffee is cold.

Dharma far from defines reality for me and I never put everything in context of Dharma. I consider Buddhism and Hinduism to be man created and not the author of the universe.
SW-User
@Pfuzylogic Really, I am poor at explanation. Dharma is reality - undefined. We find our own path, time and place. As such it defines nothing. In fact, it is what stops us defining anything.

Of course everything is man created! Everything is necessarily conceptual until we live our truth.
Pfuzylogic · M
@SW-User
In my worship of God, everything was created by the Son.
I love when the Holy Bible explains life for me. I need Jesus!
SW-User
@Pfuzylogic I find "Jesus" as such confining. The Universal Christ is another matter.

In every particular is the Universal.
Pfuzylogic · M
@SW-User
Jesus is truth and life.
Any universal church is created by man with an unknowable god.
Consider it a philosophy of man.for those that reject the real God!
SW-User
@Pfuzylogic Ah, revealing yourself as an "only wayer", seeking to distinguish yourself as totally beyond all "theologies" and "ways".

Oh, I have the "real" God, you claim, not one made by man!

Not possible my friend. All are chosen.
Pfuzylogic · M
@SW-User
If you do not chose Jesus to know God then you are simply lost and prefer being accepted by others.
John 14:6 Jesus said.
I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me
SW-User
@Pfuzylogic The verse you quote is open to various
hermeneutical interpretations, according to diverse theologies. Your attempt to distance yourself from "manmade" interpretation/theology is futile.
Pfuzylogic · M
@SW-User
It makes no sense to worship a god that people come to agreement on.
Just because you don’t agree with the scripture does it mean that there is a misinterpretation. It only means you can’t receive the truth.
SW-User
@Pfuzylogic You are a product of a time conditioned Protestant Reform Theology. You seek to place yourself above all man-made theologies/Churches/Religions. It is futile.

All are chosen.

I realise from past experience that it is futile to engage with you further.

Your statement that others who disagree with you "cannot receive the truth" is in itself a form of hubris, and comes close to blasphemy against the Spirit, which "blows where it will".
Pfuzylogic · M
@SW-User
And So you finish with a personal attack and lose your apologetic footing.
@SW-User All are chosen? For what exactly?
SW-User
@Pfuzylogic No apologies were ever intended. You guys certainly love being "attacked"!

😀
SW-User
@Bellatrix2083 Words are fluid. "Chosen".....make of it what you will.

For me, for each to find their very own path, time and place.
Pfuzylogic · M
@SW-User
An apologetic stance has nothing to do with giving apologies. It means that you defend your position on your personal belief! *chuckle*
I do enjoy people that don’t believe in anything calling it “reality”
Thanks for the smile.
SW-User
@Pfuzylogic Sadly, you do not understand a joke. Nor, obviously, do you understand one word I have written about my own Faith. It seems utterly pointless to continue this.

Enjoy your smile and your chuckles, which reveal your pretensions to having the "one truth".

All the best.
