@JovialPlutonian Neale Donald Walsch... That pretty much explains your beliefs.
JovialPlutonian · 36-40, M
@ms20182878 have you read it?
JovialPlutonian · 36-40, M
@ms20182878 reading this book reassured me of my beliefs

MarkPaul · 26-30, M
It fits neatly and nicely into God's plan. What's your problem?
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@Theliberal I see you describe yourself as a "dedicated troll". Perhaps you'd be kind enough to give @MarkPaul a few pointers. He seems to be a bit lost. ;)
Theliberal · 36-40, M
@suzie1960 i dont dislike you like he does suzie. He cant help it he is an all failing, out-of-touch baby MarkPaul wineass.
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@MarkPaul
No, that's because I dislike you.
That's obvious. As I said, you hate Atheists and I'm an Atheist. That makes me a suitable target for your hatred. All you're doing however is making yourself look very stupid.
xSharp · 31-35, M
what are the point of commandments if you have no choice but to follow them? if a creator wanted us to do something, they would program it into us, and we would do it, regardless of any threat or commandment from a false and foreign authority, because it is what we are made to do
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@MarkPaul
Truth be told, someone who is as happy as you claim and pretend shouldn't have to try so hard to be convincing that happiness is your middle name. Your attempt is falling flat.
LOL!! You're really desperate to deny I can be happy. Your life must be really empty.
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@suzie1960 Thanks for your well wishes and hypocritical comments.
Budwick · 70-79, M
@Pikachu Pik - Thanks for your advice;
That I should turn my back on The Creator of The Universe and condemn myself to eternity in Hell. I will give your advice all the consideration it deserves.
People would not have known to break the commandments unless they were given. Just like a child being told not to touch something...as soon as no one is looking they will touch it. Human nature is to be defiant and question everything.
GodSpeed63 · 61-69, M
@Pinkstarburst Amen to that!!
JovialPlutonian · 36-40, M
@Pinkstarburst you are referring to original sin, the truth being it was the original blessing.
JovialPlutonian · 36-40, M
@Pinkstarburst I believe most of you are, it's the guys running the show I have an issue with, not the followers, only in that they don't see the bigger picture and that they're being manipulated by them greedy bastards at the top.
Azrael ·
God doesn't exist soooo
JovialPlutonian · 36-40, M
@Azrael well it's hard to experience something you disbelieve, so I understand your perspective.
Azrael ·
@MrBlueGuy I would never 😂
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@MrBlueGuy Rubbish, there's no proof Santa doesn't exist and lots of evidence that He does. Those of us who have experienced Santa in their lives know He is real. :)
Ynotisay · M
I'd say it's another in a long line of opportunities for Christians to talk the talk without walking the walk.
JovialPlutonian · 36-40, M
@Ynotisay the case of portraying themselves as a thing rather than being that thing?
Ynotisay · M
@JovialPlutonian No idea.
Harriet03 · 41-45, F
10 Commandments??? 🤔 There's over 300! The 'Ten' is a edited list.. 🤷‍♀️
Classic example of CHERRY PICKING!!
curiosi · 61-69, F
Free will to choose. You may act in a godly way or not you get to choose.
JovialPlutonian · 36-40, M
@curiosi I command you is not the same as I give you the option to, is it?
GodSpeed63 · 61-69, M
The laws of His character that created in us. By obeying them, we are free to be the men and women God created us to be from the very beginning. God didn't free will to abuse it for evil but to use it for good to His great joy.
LonelyMan · M
They are His will for us, but it is our choice to obey or not.

@JovialPlutonian You point out an implication in your original question that is important to this whole discussion: "A commandment does not imply any free will, in fact it strips it." It took me a while to come to the understanding that you connect "commandment" with "there is no free will". It is your choice to do so, but you should be aware that you are deviating from all of the definitions of "commandment" that I researched. The definitions of "commandment" all seem to have a flavor of them being an order, direction, requirement, guideline, etc. I didn't find any definitions that specifically commented on there being no free will available to allow disobedience. They did not mention any concept of forced obedience to the commandment. So, to connect "commandment" with "there is no free will" appears to alter the common definition of "commandment".
JovialPlutonian · 36-40, M
@ms20182878 so if I command you to do a thing am I giving you an option to choose otherwise?
ms20182878 · 61-69, M
@JovialPlutonian Unless you are somehow able to force my 100% obedience to your command, then I would always have the option to disobey your command either fully or partially. Even in our military, which we would probably agree is highly command-focused, soldiers have the ability to disobey the commands of their superior officers, either fully of partially, and they do occasionally disobey.
Reverend · M
The Ten Commandments were given to a specific group of people at a specific time. The Commandments are something believers should look to and try to adhere to, even unbelievers in the majority have no problem keeping most of them and dont even try. There are things that were done away with in Christ, one of the ten commandments, that one being Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. That commandment does not stand in the Christian world. We should adhere the best we can to the word of God in general, being believers that is. But to break a commandment or commandments have no bearing on ones salvation. If we were able to keep Gods word, Christ died in vein.
Isthisit · F
It's up to you weather you use your free will to believe the commandments or not. I think once you believe, the commandments become serious otherwise they are just words.
Spoken like someone without teenagers...

My son has a certain amount of freedom, but still has rules he has to follow. I am not going to chain him down or lock him away to prevent him from breaking those rules. But if he does, there are consequences.
@JovialPlutonian that depends upon what he did and how severe it was. Same as with any parent out there. (Or at least any GOOD parent out there.)
JovialPlutonian · 36-40, M
@PrivateHell so only good parents must demand power over their own children?
JovialPlutonian · 36-40, M
@PrivateHell this is interesting to say the least
You get to choose whether to follow the commandments or not xD
JovialPlutonian · 36-40, M
@MrBlueGuy that wouldn't make it a commandment.
deadgerbil · 22-25
God 'gives' humans the ability or freedom to follow the Ten Commandments or not...

But the thing is, free will as a concept doesn't make sense in the universe in which we live in(we only have the illusion of free will), so to have a system of beliefs based off of the idea that we have it is deeply problematic.
Sroonaka616 · 31-35, M
Totally BS guidelines.
4meAndyou · F
I wonder what Moses said to God when he asked God for the ten commandments. Did he ask Him, how should we live in order to please You?
ms20182878 · 61-69, M
@4meAndyou Moses was a humble man, and would not have asked God such a thing. The interactions between God and Moses in the text of Exodus are a general flow of information and instructions from God to Moses.
SheikYerbouti · 51-55, M
If we didn't have freewill, we wouldn't need any.
Budwick · 70-79, M
We get to choose to follow them or not.
Duh!
Winterwine · 61-69, M
More like suggestions?
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@Winterwine Like The Flying Spaghetti Monster's "I'd rather you didn'ts"?
Winterwine · 61-69, M
@suzie1960 well, since i bever heard of the creature mentioned...perhaps!
DonaldTrumpet · 70-79, M
The FinEz PrinTz.
MartinTheFirst · 22-25, M
It's pretty self-explanatory.
JovialPlutonian · 36-40, M
@MartinTheFirst you can't give me a straight answer can you. It's swings and roundabouts hey?
MartinTheFirst · 22-25, M
@JovialPlutonian I don't see how you could think my answer curves.
JovialPlutonian · 36-40, M
@MartinTheFirst very wishy-washy is all
