Funeral songs.

What songs have people chosen to play at funerals. I am currently arranging a funeral for my mum and I would appreciate some help in choosing the music.

My condolences to you and your family Sorry for your loss. Those 2 songs were played at my mom's funeral. She died of a Blood Clot. It started in her calf, then disappeared, then came back in her calf, again, found its way around her body and ended up going into her heart and exploding. My mom was only 46 years old. I was 22 when she died.

My Grandmother had already organized the songs she wanted. The Theme song from The Dockers football team. Two songs from an Indian singer Kumar I didn't recognize. Followed by AC/DC's 'Highway to hell' when the coffin was lowered. She didn't want people to feel sad she was gone.

@Thevy29 The funeral was all paid for in advance.
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
@Jacko1971 Yes. Both she and Poppa had planned their funerals knowing their kids wouldn't cope with the particulars.

@Thevy29 "highway to hell" - I LOVE her style!!!

Here's a poem. I love I read this at my mom's funeral:

"Do Not Stand at My Grave and Weep":
Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.

A Note on Authorship
While this poem circulated anonymously or with unknown origins for decades, its authorship is generally attributed to Mary Elizabeth Frye (1905–2004), who is believed to have written it in 1932.
However, some sources suggest an earlier version may have been written by Clare Harner titled "Immortality." The poem's history is somewhat disputed, but for many, it simply serves as a timeless message of comfort that transcends a single author.

I have just re-read the programme.
Time to say Goodbye was by Sarah Brightman as well as Andrea Bocelli. On the radio, it is usually the Italian version played.

The Photo Tribute was accompanied by Jennifer Juniper by Donovan. [The deceased's name was Jennifer]

It was a lovely service. Morning from Peer Gynt as we walked in. A lovely tribute followed by a lovely poem. Celine Dion's Because You Loved Me accompanied a photo presentation (which worked out perfectly) and Somewhere Over The Rainbow as we were ushered. Having paid for it, I would have liked to have stayed until the end of the song.
Jacko1971 · 51-55, M
No favourite as such she liked nice singers with good voices rather than pop bands. Im looking at Celine Dion, My Heart Does Go On. Because You Loved Me has more appropriate lyrics but not as powerful.

Ive been told that I should end with a positive song. Somewhere Over The Rainbow is a nice song and is of the same vintage as mum.

@Jacko1971 Celine Dion......just no!
