Would you trust a guy who lies about his age?

I met a guy for drinks last week (when we were interacting online he told me he was 35). When I met him in person he told me he was 40. This is the second person I know who has lied about his age to me. At least this guy admitted it
If he lies about dumb shit like his age then he's gonna lie about important shit later on too 😅
deadgerbil · 22-25, F
Nope. Liars should be automatically disqualified
deadgerbil · 22-25, F
@SkeetSkeet don't question me, woman
SkeetSkeet · 100+, F
@deadgerbil you need jesus
deadgerbil · 22-25, F
@SkeetSkeet I'll smack you with the book of Mormon
smiler2012 · 56-60
{@solitaire] 🤔i do not know really why lie about something so trivial as age . maybe i am cynical and of a suspicious nature but if lie about something like this so minor what else would he be untruthful over down the line
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@smiler2012 Yes lying about a basic fact about yourself makes me think he will lie about other things.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
It’s a red flag for sure and not a good way to begin a relationship. Also if they post photos of themselves 15-20 years younger than what they are is another one.
I don't even write lie and trust in a same line 😁
Raaii · 22-25, F
@SimplyLogicalDiscipline [c=800000] totally on point [/c]
@Raaii 😝
Is this a George Santos question?
Ferric67 · M
@MaBalzEsHari not that i voted for him, but he is my elected official.
So did you meet the guy because he was 35, or did you meet him because you found him interesting or something else inside?
I do not reveal my age, gender, or politics online. I would rather have someone think I am interesting by what I present.
Answering the question, no I would not trust him or her. And he is probly 48.
OverTheHill · 56-60, M
Nope. They are a liar.
pentacorn · F
first thing i thought was, he's prob older than 40. but what prompted him to say he was 40? that would be telling
Ferric67 · M
@pentacorn smart thinking penti
solitaire · 41-45, F
@pentacorn Meaning?
pentacorn · F
@solitaire if he offered his age for no reason, then he's feeling guilty for having lied about saying he's 35. if you asked him about what age he is because he didn't look 35, then he's just a cold-blooded liar who's trying not to get caught.
Shallowaters · 36-40, M
Well that's quite annoying. Lying gives a negative impact in the first go. It's a instant turn off
Strictmichael75 · 61-69, M
Stupid lying about age!
Maybe afraid you will think him too old
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@Strictmichael75 But people find out eventually so what's the point. The same for people with pictures that are misleading.
SW-User
The older I get the more I understand lying about age. I still say I’m about 35 when I’m 37 but I’m technically closer to 35 than 40. I think probably if you can’t tell then it doesn’t matter especially as it says you’re of similar age.
Magenta · F
@SW-User Right?! It's certainly not the end of the world or the worst lie ever told by any of us.
MartinTheFirst · 22-25, M
@SW-User just stop doing it, there's no reason to do it, you look as old as you look either way, saying you're 37 instead of 35 won't make you look or act 2 years older
daydeeo · 61-69, M
He probably thought you wouldn't meet him if he was older. Shows poor judgement on his part.
The fact that he admitted it does have some redeeming value.
But of course now you can't help but wonder what else might he be lying about?
Trust, once lost, is very difficult to regain.
TrashCat · M
I don't trust anyone who lies PERIOD
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
Huge red flag for me.
Boleuskas · M
Some guys are insecure
riseofthemachine · 41-45, M
If there not honest with there age which is a small thing can you imagine what else there hidden.
I went away from a person over lying to me a few days ago .
Nah I wouldn’t entertain that bull shit
solitaire · 41-45, F
itsok · 31-35, F
@itsok hahaha
MartinTheFirst · 22-25, M
@itsok 😏
I don't know why lie. If someone I knew offline lied to je about their age I'd be concerned but on here I don't worry about it.
solitaire · 41-45, F
@Spoiledbrat Not on here. This is someone I interacted with online and then met in person
@solitaire It might not be anything but I don't blame you for wondering why he lied. Did you ask him?
phillyguy · 56-60, M
I'd say something small like that, no worries. Women lie about their age ALL the time. Some people are insecure about their age. If it goes BEYOND superficial things then step away!
Sassychick420 · 31-35, F
No I wouldn't trust anyone who lied about their age. That's dumb no need to lie about age unless your to young so yeah. That's a problem for me
ABCDEF7 · M
It would be interesting to know why they lied.
ABCDEF7 · M
@MaBalzEsHari Your absurd reason to lie has no relevance to my comment in the context of this post.
@ABCDEF7 Oh my...............guess who is full of himself. ;-) ;-) Take a laxative........you're waaay too full of it.
ABCDEF7 · M
@MaBalzEsHari You really looks like a 7 years old immature, and you yourself told what you are after.
eMortal · M
He’s not hoping for anything serious between you two. Don’t overthink it.
solitaire · 41-45, F
@eMortal Na not overthinking. Would you even consider having a platonic friendship with such a person?
eMortal · M
@solitaire Yes. If you’re trying to weed out people around you based on small lies you’d be alone all the time.
Lies like his are part of their own insecurities. You’re not involved.
If you wanna judge someone’s character based on their truthfulness, find out if they have broken the law before by lying, in my opinion.
InHeaven · F
Admitting is good...but there, probably, will be more lying along the way
If he can lie about his age… he’ll lie about anything and everything.
I wouldn't trust him.

But it's not like I haven't lied before.
No. I don’t understand why you’d even think you needed to 🤦‍♂️
Adogslife · 61-69, M
Ask for his license.

Ask if he lies about his penis too.
Absolutely not.. nor if he lies about his name.
BackyardShaman · 61-69, M
I don’t get it why do people do this ?
To me, it would be a red flag. If he’d lie about something so inconsequential, what else might he lie about ?
scorpiolovedeep · 46-50, M
Do not trust him
Smokey · 46-50, M
Ive never seen the point
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
Probably not.
TrashCat · M
People
People who need people...
Are the luckiest people in the world
unless they lie about their age and plan to meet other people
solitaire · 41-45, F
@TrashCat This has happened to me twice. A 40 year old posing as a 35-year old and a 56-year old posing as a man in his 40s. When I ask them the reason they say if they don't lie about their age people don't respond
Dan193 · 31-35, M
Ppl are insecure about stuff like that the older they get. Maybe he revealed it soon, because he liked u
SW-User
Did you say something about it? What did he say if so?
solitaire · 41-45, F
@SW-User He didn't know my age until I met him, so he thought if I was a young lady (say in her 20s) and I knew he was 40 upfront that I might not even want to meet him in person. Anyway I had made it clear to him that I wasn't looking for a relationship so there was no need to lie to begin with
SW-User
@solitaire Yeah I figured that might be the reason. Not right if him to lie, but is his explanation enough for you to over look that little mess up of his, considering you're not looking for anything serious?
Ferric67 · M
may i ask what were the drinks ordered?
I know that i am being nosey, i'm just too curious
Morrigan · F
A lie is a lie, if they can't start out honest, it is a NO
workathome · 51-55, M
only 5 years, it could've been a lot worse
solitaire · 41-45, F
@workathome Yeah but why lie?
pdockal · 56-60, M
Age is just a number so unless your underage who cares
Iwillwait · M
So, what is more appealing being older or younger?
hunkalove · 61-69, M
I lie about mine. I'm 12 but I act like I'm 13.
Filho · 36-40, M
I don't understand this logic
Why they need to lie
allygator18 · 22-25, F
did he give yiu two different names too?
Vandhana6633 · 36-40, F
Really, how did you feel?
GuyWithOpinions · 31-35, M
Did you ask him why he lied?
Well, people lie becuase the truth makes them feel guilty or vulnerable.

He may have felt that showing his true age would limit his chances of meeting someone.

But still.....if they lie, becuase of an undesirable truth, then what else will they lie about?
Will the lies stop there?

Lies fuck everything up. I dont understand why liars dont get this.
Lies shatter trust....and put doubt on everything that comes after.

Its good that he admitted it.
But it doenst mean he wont do it again.
Which is the bummer.
You now have doubt.
fakable · T
do you look 40 years old?
Wiseacre · F
Maybe, maybe not...
