Human rights definitely don't make sense when you have guns inserted in the list.

And they're not going to.

The right to carry a gun means you’re ignoring everyone else’s human rights

@Subsumedpat
there was no north south thing in 1791
What are you saying? That the South didn’t have slaves in 1791? That slavery wasn’t outlawed in the North? There have always been deep political and cultural differences between North and South since white people came to America. I’m trying to imagine a way in which your comment is not hysterically inaccurate, and I’m coming up empty.

@nedkelly 🤔now ned do scousers and liverpool fans have human rights in your book or do you not consider us human lol 😆
@Subsumedpat
What's your point? Do you think bullets fired by some mass shooter into a group of kids and teachers in a school will only find the kids of parents who are progressives, or what other knee jerk remarks do you have in store?
So….. no right to defend oneself?

@Gloomy I think he has a valid concern....people "should" be able to protect themselves. Not being a gun advocate, I guess I'm just thinking he has a point we should consider. I plan to use a gun someday...just once....
Depends who is defining human rights. I think people should have the right to kill in self-defense. It's not ideal. If you could just hurt someone who is trying to kill you in order to stop them, that's better than killing them. But if someone is fighting for their life, I expect them to just do whatever they can to survive.

Only laws and people who make them decide what human rights we have, and in the U.S the Constitution states you have the right to gun ownership 🤷🏻‍♀️ you think it doesn't make sense, but it's also a weapon that can defend and save lives. Guns make a positive difference to people living in areas with high crime, or rural areas where they would otherwise not be able to use any effective self-defense.

Americans are still in their backward cowboy mindset
almondflour · 46-50, F
Hm. Don't know about that
It depends what type of people own guns. Guns don't have a mind of their own. In fact, they cannot trigger on their own.
@almondflour rights don't include guns.
Gloomy · F
@almondflour That talking point is stupid I'm sorry the more often I read it the more frustrated I get with it.
Guns are definitely a problem and not just the people carrying them but since we can't get rid of guns alltogether regulating and monitoring ownership with saftey trainings and psych evaluation makes most sense.

Emphasising guns being a right is psychotic.
Layla07 · 26-30, F
@Roundandroundwego as an American i have the right of self defense. I can use whatever force necessary to ensure that i do not receive bodily injury. This includes deadly force using a gun if that is the weapon i choose.
gol979 · 41-45, M
How about citizens giving up their guns and just letting the perfectly sane police system own guns?
Gloomy · F
@gol979 Wouldn't make a difference cause guns are useless when trying to fight this kind of state violence.
Chomsky made a great point. He explained why in this day and age armed citizens are only a danger to each other and never to state power cause the state will always have the bigger military might.
gol979 · 41-45, M
@Gloomy yet more system serving words. For someone who allegedly wants to replace the system you sure do pimp for it. Most the time your stance is that of an authoritarian statist
Gloomy · F
@gol979 I do like the state as a tool it just needs more democratic control and better educated citizens.

Also what I wrote is true.
