Things you don't want to talk about w/people you you.. !!
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
Communicating in English.
Ability to just leave without offending anyone.
Budging in with my unsolicited opinion without getting annoyed or confused stares. 😂
Actually, the lack of relationship itself is awesome. The mere ability to react to thoughts or jokes without necessarily being in any kind of relationship with the person who tells them. In real life I would have to be close to the person, "to sit at the same table", otherwise it would be weird, awkward...

@Renkon I could if I deliberately searched for foreigners to talk to. There used to be some events at one pub where you had a chance to train your language if you wanted to but I don't know if it still exists. It was before pandemic. Otherwise no, English is not spoken.
Renkon · 41-45, M
@CrazyMusicLover You are right.
Interacting with native speakers is the best approach to become acquainted with a language. When you speak with someone face to face, the emotions, tones, and thoughts involved enrich your language.

@CrazyMusicLover I think this pretty much sums most of it up for me. Minus the English. That’s everywhere here lol

Couldn't put it better.
I travel a lot with work . It took me to places with a wide range of cultures. Observing the diversity of life humbles me. I met some incredible folks. Their life helped me in erasing my confined thoughts of the world. Each person's life is a story in itself. A world of its own.
It's wonderful that you feel the same.
If we want to widen our understanding (and maybe acceptance) of the diversity of people’s interest, mindset, behavior, etc….

I have been privileged to travel extensive, both for work and personal interests. The most memorable moments of those trips are the ones where I said to myself: “Wow. wish I could be more like them… or do what they could…”
It’s both enlightening and humbling experience to learn more about others.

@CookieCrumbs True.

Feels like a blessing .
In real life I don’t see my friends on a daily basis …
I love the way I can see my friends here everyday and that I spend time with them as long as my time allows me (Same applies for them too) ..

I have only been here, maybe a month. I have no spouse, family lives very far away and they do not make an effort to communicate, local friends are not really interested in who I am and are mostly co-workers and no one around my age. I am not a social butterfly, so meeting new people is very difficult for me. In real life, married men are the ones who come forward asking me out. I know their intent is not to really know me or care about me, and I do not want that or a wife coming after me, all because I want companionship. Single men are not interested in me. Don’t ask me why because I have no idea why. This has been the case my entire adult life.
Those I communicate with on here, must appear to be more than just someone seeking attention or confirmation or someone desperate for something they really need to be seeking in real life as it cannot be achieved online. I am not a therapist or a counsellor or a mentor. It is probably easier to list what it does not provide me or what I do not want, than it is to describe what I have found in this first month here. I was pleasantly surprised at the caliber of people I have met here so far. Yes, there are still those I am cautious of and do not interact with.
I have been on other sites, they were toxic. All I want is authentic communication and to enjoy what I build with friends here. My experience here is a positive one in comparison to the other sites I have visited. I considered having a penpal, and meeting people on here from all around the world makes it possible.
This is fodder for my writing.

This is a really good question - probably the best question I‘ve read in months.
You know, the thing is this:
I never found a friend in real life. Not one single time.
And there was also never a partner in my life who loved me.
I am not sure why, but probably it’s because I don’t look nice like other women.
And online it is the only possibility for me to have social contacts. Here I have found two very good longterm-friends. The one has left after six years, but the other one is still there. And I am so grateful for it because I know when I never had a friend in real life this also will not happen in future.
And this my friebdship here is the only thing what I can call still a little bit „quality of life.“

@Renkon That’s great with your friend in college! 👍
I also don’t get it… but things are as they are. 🤷♀️
You know what I also never will forget?
Years ago I still made the mistake to believe that appearance is not everything.
And so I‘ve sent my photo to two online friends I had years ago here. They asked me for a photo to know how I look like and I wanted to do them a favour and I trusted them.
But I swear: In the moment they saw how I look like BOTH of them disappeared immediately and never came back. The one after three months daily communication and friendship, the other one after 9 months daily communication and friendship.
But in all those years I have learned and now I am not more THAT naive.

@Loretta78m' sorry you had a negative experience. I don't believe they were real friends. A good friend is first and foremost a good human being.
Your experience has served as a wake-up call. So I entirely understand your feelings on the role of appearance.
Next time, I hope you find the right person.

@Renkon the real world things get complicated with familial / friendship expectations and pressures.
Renkon · 41-45, M
@Starcrossed The crushing pressure of exceptions coerces us into doing things we don't want to do. Why can't we break free of these constraints?
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
@Renkon that's a loaded question I suppose. The very fabric of society, and healthy family systems rely on one being able to expect a set of behaviors from one another for their success.
When we come to expect disconnect, violence, narcissism- the systems start to breakdown. Which might be some sad observation about the state of society today *gestures vaguely* 😐

I can vent here without it leading to an argument or upsetting anyone in my real life.
I can muse about things without being met with the blank stares of people who I'm just too deep for.
And I can ask advice here and get it completely unbiased because no one here knows me.

I’m pretty much like this irl too, but I like it here because I can 100% be myself, show my pervy side and the odd nude. Can’t do that on FB or IG. My best friends who I hang out with expect that though.
Renkon · 41-45, M
@SW-User Opening out to someone other than family or friends allows you to release the burden within you. It's therapeutical, isn't it?
It brings clarity, calmness, and a space to reflect on yourself.
It is necessary to be yourself every now and then. Or you become engulfed in the drama of this world.
