Same, once I begin something, I get into the zone; it's the starting that's the hardest.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
When I come across a problem I don't know how to solve fast and have to search for a solution before I can work further. My attention and interest always shift to other things that I could progress with.
Mathstutor · 80-89, M
@CrazyMusicLover so you only want quick solution ideas?
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
@Mathstutor If money is involved or the time is tight, which lately has been, yes. I'm not getting paid for the searching for solutions, only the result.
Heartlander · 80-89, M
@CrazyMusicLover when you get to that impasse, what works for me is just to review the parts over and over and where each fits in, but not try to force a solution. Clear my mind, enjoy the pleasures of life and don't start something else. At some point while sitting on the swing or watching the flowers grow there will be a popping sound, the solution has found you and can't wait to tell you.

Getting started is almost never the hardest part for me... it's getting started on too many things and having difficulty finishing everything.

Same. I almost always started school projects at the last possible minute - the morning they were due.
I'm still that way...

When you have to take out all the seeds when eating watermelons. I spit them into a bowl.
Putting on shoes and socks. After that, everything is manageable.
The best fruit. Pears. Apples. Hard ones taste best.
Finding a partner of good quality. It is still in process.
Doing it now instead of leaving it til tomorrow. Like getting gas for my jeep. I am better at doing it today and not procrastinating. I tell myself and it works. Just get it done and over with. It is far easier now compared to the past.

It’s fairly easy for me to start something, but the most difficult part for me is staying on track once I’ve started.
Mathstutor · 80-89, M
@Ducky are there some things you have been successful with?
Ducky · 31-35, F
@Mathstutor Yes
Mathstutor · 80-89, M
@Ducky say more
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
Getting started is the hardest, the next hardest is continuing once I have figured out how it's to be done because then the rest is just work.
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
@Mathstutor Working out what the solution is and describing the implementation are the interesting parts of a project. The nitty gritty of actually doing it is less so :-) The first part is also hard work but it doesn't feel like a slog in the way that all the rest is.
Heartlander · 80-89, M
@ninalanyon Yep. Once the brain sees the end it accepts it as done :) It's like those operating room scenes in movies where the chief surgeon pats him/herself on the back, takes a deep breath, takes off the rubber gloves and tells the assistants to finish it and sew the patient back up.

For me is keep going...
Mathstutor · 80-89, M
@being so what’s causing the “not keeping going”
Heartlander · 80-89, M
It can be like jumping into a pool with an unknown depth :) Or jumping from a questionable height. Or lifting a weight that may be difficult to put down without breaking it or your foot.
mindstruggle · 31-35, F
Losing the people that you genuinely care about. 😔
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
@mindstruggle agree
Mathstutor · 80-89, M
@mindstruggle how come you lose them?
PhoenixPhail · M
The hardest part for me is continuing. I feel there's nowhere to go but out.

Finishing, it takes too long.

Same. For years now, unless I have something to get up for I don’t get started.

Not getting distracted
Mathstutor · 80-89, M
@Starcrossed what distracts you?
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
@Mathstutor what doesn't distract me? I have ADHD and Executive Dysfunction
Mathstutor · 80-89, M
@Starcrossed so are there some things you’ve progressed without getting distracted?

Focus. When I am doing something, I always get distracted with something else that needs done. Before you know it, I have 6 projects going on at once.

For me it’s staying on track to finish. I get distracted entirely too easily and…
