Anytime the government says that you shouldnt question them. Yeah, that can be dangerous.
@SheCallsMeCrushDaddy One of the catch phrases of my youth was "Question Authority". But Jan 6 took that premise way beyond what the "law & order" folks would’ve ordinarily sanctioned.

That we don't need the Constitution of the United States anymore

When we confuse Nationalism with Patriotism

When we forget what it truly is to be an American
@calicuz ok, I’m not American so explain to me what it is to be truly American?

@CrystalSkull

There are certain philosophies we live by that aren't written into the Constitution. One that comes to mind, in this radical political climate in our country is:

1: "We do not send immigrants back to their death or subversion if they are being persecuted for their religious beliefs or their political views"
Example: We do not send people back to communist countries if they fled their country of origin fighting for free elections.

Absolute belief in a deity whose holy books can be interpreted to justify violence without question.

@Iwillwait I understand it's not easy

@teachmetiger210503 socialism is kept at bay when the non socialists have weapons.
@Iwillwait Nearly every country on earth is a blend of capitalism and socialism. For example, socialized military and law enforcement works better than privately funded.

Lately, most everything is so called weaponized and targeted at someone, ideas included.
teachmetiger210503 · 36-40, M
@FrozenGuy 😂😆😂
@FrozenGuy Sadly, there’s much truth in that. Ideas that were initially positive have been rebranded and are surprisingly, used to restrict people and insult them.

@Patriot96 Division Inequity and Exclusion.

Racism against people who happen to be born white.
@MasterLee I’ve experienced that. However only from a few, most people want to work together I have found.

Liberalism. Assuming the world owes you because you exist.
@MasterLee that’s not how I interpret the word liberalism but I get that the meaning changes in America. Judging by the arguments I’ve seen.
calicuz · 51-55, M
@MasterLee

"Democratic Liberalism" that is in the White House today is dangerous, because it promotes the idea that we need a law for everyone and everything.
"Liberalism," in it's truest form is simply the promotion and belief in the rights of the individual, which actually makes the Constitution a "Liberal" document.

The idea that the worth of someone’s life can be measured by the amount of wealth they possess. 😞

Nationalism
@DearAmbellina2113 yes. Good one.
Apparently equality is. 🤷🏼‍♀️
@darknessprevails
Which part? I can't tell what comment you're responding to.

@pillowprincess your primary comment
@darknessprevails
It seems to be a real threat to some people, mostly those that believe equality means them giving up on privileges.

@CrystalSkull
Btw, I love music and your pfp makes me think of...

I'm on my way, gonna make it big
Gonna make these songs for the chicks to dig
It's really hot and a little bit sour
We're getting your strength to maximum power

Flying away from reality
Whatever-ever happened to gravity?
I see it clear, a shooting star
And I'm really gonna sing it like da-da-da

Sing it out loud gonna get back honey
Sing it out loud get away with me
Sing it out loud on a trip back honey
Sing it out loud and let yourself free

Yeah!

"I won't vote anymore, because it doesn't matter anyways"

"All options are just as bad"

Plenty of modern issues, many of which have been enumerated in the other comments, were only possible after this sort of thinking was normalized.
@Elessar They win then, if you sit on the fence.

Rishi Sunak dare not call an election, why?

The underclass is being disenfranchised by having to show identity.

marxist ideas.
DunningKruger · 61-69, M
Any idea could potentially be dangerous to society if it's carried too far. Generally, I think extremism of any sort is likely the most dangerous.

@DunningKruger Your point is well made. Humans have a history of weaponizing anything they can...😷

Organised religon. That covers most of it..Any set of rules that demands conformity of behaviour that has no direct bearing on harm to others is bad..😷

Banning social media (TikTok Banned)

Censorship

(Just look up WW2 for them reasons)
@HumanEarth TikTok isn’t being banned. The US component has to be sold to an American company. China limits US social media in their country do it’s only fair that we do the same.

Any belief, whether it's religion, politics or whatever, that gives you carte blanc to achieve your aims
Individualism is killing the planet right now. So we meant anything BUT that......
Hot pants.
teachmetiger210503 · 36-40, M
@Roundandroundwego the problem in most cases is not with a genuine individualist but with the community who refuses to drink the cure he has to offer for the society.

That the worst issue in society at the moment is anything but the struggle for anyone to survive and live in a home and meet their basic life needs. Broken homes make broken people make broken people in power, breaking others.

String Theory
@Pfuzylogic I have to agree to a certain extent, however I don’t think that string theory affects the majority of the human race. It’s called a theory because that’s what it is and theories can change. I would say religion for example affects way more people than string theory, couldn’t, one measure it by the same paradigm? Ie “stuck on one idea and until you prove them wrong….”
Pfuzylogic · M
@CrystalSkull Just like the big bang before it fell apart; In science you have someone on top i.e. Penrose/Hawking that intimidates everyone until real data comes on.
Currently it is Edward Witten who is the bully on the block with String theory. if you don’t buy what he is selling, he will make you look silly. That includes other professional, scientists!
@Pfuzylogic I understand.

People following satanist religion rather Gods religion
That unfettered procreation on a planet of finite resources should be some sort human right (as well as the idea that Acme Corp should be able to go set up outposts / mines / etc. on any other celestial body in space once humans have exhausted Earth)

That federalism is a good idea instead of a unitary state

That Everyman / Everywoman should be able to run for political offices with very few restrictions (such as an IQ test, and actual experience in public administration, law, or STEM)

That morons (e.g., people who believe in things like consiracy theories or subscribe to beliefs such as climate change denial or "sovereign citizen" nonsense) should have a right to vote just like non-morons

That extreme wealth inequaliies and a plutocrat / oligarch class are acceptable (and that this class thereafter shall be free to use its wealth to continuously advance its own self-serving political agendas at the expense of the majority of citizens)
tenente · 100+, M
@NativePortlander1970 I agree but there isn’t getting away from it.
