I just got blocked by someone I been talking to for awhile

They been knowing my views of advocating for due process for immigrants for quite awhile. I think people need to consider if I'm for them before being friends with me. I'm willing to accept differences but the way our govt is going about things is wrong period. I won't bow to anyone on that.

Yeah, I'm not someone who regularly talks about politics or refuses to associate with people I differ from, but if I have to walk on eggshells around you and hide my beliefs because you'll get upset, then maybe we're not supposed to be friends, I don't know. I hope no one blocks me because of political differences, but if they fundamentally disagree with who I am, then it's probably not going to work out and sometimes that's okay.
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@HiFiRaver You said it perfectly. I've had people in the past where nothing was wrong with them personally but you would almost have to tip toe around them. And if you have to walk on eggshells that's already bad.

I also think that people try to use you too. It's not always the case but I've had others in the past drop me once they couldn't get what they get. So they were friends with me but only because they wanted something.
supersnipe · 61-69, M
You don't have to like everyone, be friends with them, or spend time with them. Much has been made of how 'polarised' we've become in recent years, but people have always been different, and have sought out kindred spirits to be friends with.
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@supersnipe people are not seeking out like minded friends these days. They are vilifying anyone that thinks different than them. This scares me .
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@supersnipe Yeah I get that not everyone is for everyone too maybe that's what that was.

The thing about me is that my views are pretty open so if you add me to your circle and then decide to talk to me on the regular, it's kinda stupid to decide later that you got an issue with what I say knowing my views.

Like I don't hide so you should have been knowing this lol.
HumanEarth · F
NativePortlander1970 blocked me because I didn't hate his enemy or something. And we got along great for over a year.

I rather have him unblocked me and look past that. Other then that, he was a cool person to talk to.

Oh well sometimes people gotta do what they gotta do, even if it don't make sense.

SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@HumanEarth Haha actually same happened to me with that person. We were good until we weren't and it was for the same reason, politics lol.

But I dunno to me, he was really spiteful so I said good riddance but was still disappointed.
Jenny1234 · 56-60, F
I accept that I won’t always share the same views as my friends so I don’t even have political conversations with them. Most of my friends feel the same.
SUPERVlXEN · F
There are some principles that you can't compromise on, and frankly I'll have more than struggles to accept anyone as my friend if their values are too far off from mine.
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@SUPERVlXEN Yeah but if you're talking for a long time to certain people and they just now decided they don't like you is wild though lol
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@AthrillatheHunt I can't say for sure but we've both agreed and disagreed before and we're on good terms.
SUPERVlXEN · F
@SatanBurger
It’s strange since I don’t think you ever have not been transparent about your political standing. It appears that something triggered them. From my own experience I’ve observed how immigration policies have had people move the goalposts, just like free speech has been redefined for a lot of these people.
GeniUs · 56-60, M
The way I see it with anybody/everybody we're not going to see eye to eye on everything so there will eventually be a disagreement but because I'm an adult (I don't know if anybody else is) I won't let it cloud my judgement on the next topic unless it is a core disagreement*.

* This would be something like when a person says, 'they killed one of our people we'll kill (an innocent) one of theirs'.
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@GeniUs The trouble is that it seems like once a person "decides" you are something, nothing you say will make it better. Most of the arguments been stuff like "so you say" "so you're this or that" "so what you're saying is" and then whatever hyperbolic thing they can think of. That's what I find, once a person decides you are something, you just are lol.
GeniUs · 56-60, M
@SatanBurger Some people have to win an argument, whether they are right or wrong and will use what ever tactic necessary even labelling you something derogatory in the process. I remember being accused of wanting Mengele style experiments on people over Covid; perhaps Mengele did isolate people to check the results of a vaccination program (I kinda doubt it) but to associate an idea with a name like that to discredit it is just the desire to remove it from the argument. Not worth carrying on a discussion with somebody who does that. Can't remember whether one of us blocked the other but that sort of person is not worth associating with.
Punches · 46-50, F
politics is the biggest reason people block.

I do not argue a whole lot about it, just occasional short comments, because it is a waste of time.

Politics is just entertainment, nothing to base real life decisions on. There is nothing to be learned from endless arguing about it.

It would be like if people got into a heated debate about just how much wood a woodchuck would chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood.

But since trump stopped world war three today apparently, I guess I can go out and enjoy the weather.
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@LordShadowfire Honestly I should try that, it would be a good test to see. Too many wear masks and you often don't learn until too late. Much better just to put it out there. I'll try that
Punches · 46-50, F
@SatanBurger talking politics in real life though may not be a good idea.
I mean online people do it because they can tear each other a "new one" and no real harm.
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@Punches It's good to weed them out though because I like a lot of people at first and then stuff happens. I think you don't have to go around bringing it up first but it's good to stand your ground. Let's you know
oldguy73 · 70-79, M
okay, i don't understand this blocking stuff, why block a person??, why even care what they say?, let people say anything they want, as long as they don't threaten you, then site will ban them, just me but i love to argue, ( as all know)
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@oldguy73 Yes you do like to argue.
moooooooose · 46-50, M
Sounds like you’re better off with the block honestly. Anyone who is for treating people that way has serious issues.
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@moooooooose Yeah I can't say if it's this particular person's case but it seems like if that happens, it's likely they thought of me like that anyways but didn't let me know as stuff like that just doesn't magically happen by random.

This usually happens because the person was hoping to gain something and for some reason I didn't serve a purpose in their logic so they just decided to get rid of me by faking an argument. I've had a few people like that in my life and they were always wanting something.
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@Infamous607 Yeah seems to be similar experiences.
masterofyou · 70-79, M
Yup it happens girl i get blocked after they see my posts...
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@masterofyou There's names I don't even know that blocked me. But I understand I'm not for everyone. It's mainly people who been in my circle for awhile but then just decided they now didn't like my views that kinda is weird to me. But nothing is random and I come to the conclusion that I don't want that anyways so it's good.
WowwGirl · 36-40, F
masterofyou · 70-79, M
@SatanBurger Random is very boring 😴

We are adults surly we can just agree to disagree.

@WowwGirl @HumanEarth There was a guy who had an autism ribbon multicolored tattoo in honor of his brother who has autism and ICE terrorists said that the tattoo was ms 13, labeled him a gang member and shipped him out.

@SatanBurger I'm good
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
It's always discouraging when somebody just completely cuts off communication. It just shows they don't want to hear the truth.
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@LordShadowfire Yeah I don't really want people like that anyways. I've had those types of people in my circle before and you find you have to walk on glass around them.

But I've done that before and it never works. Agreeing just to agree with people like that never works because it's a way to control your behavior. You're forever going to be modifying your behavior to make them comfortable and I just can't anymore. I'm too old at 37 to really do that.

I've learned that if I just don't agree, I don't agree. Sorry.
ViciDraco · 41-45, M
If it was over political views, it seems like that should have happened long ago. You haven't exactly been quiet about them...
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@ViciDraco Hahaha yeahhhh I've really not been quiet.
ViciDraco · 41-45, M
@SatanBurger That's one of the things I like about you though. It starts to feel like living in crazy land that more people aren't calling out how not okay this all has been.
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@ViciDraco It does and honestly makes me feel unsafe. I know that I got my own back but I know that others may or may not. Then you have the govt just allowing itself to be dismantled while we have leaders that do anything they want.

I used to be a boxer and might enroll in some martial arts for the reason I know I'm alone and in case I need to defend myself against a group.

Used to be decent at boxing, can throw a punch if I need to but not at a defend myself level. Might have to check which fighting arts is the best for self defense.

But I can also imagine how people who are super vulnerable must feel in our time too, people who can't do anything.
swirlie · 31-35
I agree 100% with you about due process being given to immigrants. Where Trump has put the USA is right up there among all the other Third World mentalities found among far away countries with strange-sounding names.
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@swirlie From the very beginning of outlawing abortion we were starting to lean that way. Most countries have adequate child care and incentives for having kids like better education, four day work weeks but they also have abortion as part of reproductive care. The same number of women and children die in anti abortion developing worlds as much as in the United States now.

The developing world mentality started with that and then they wanted to press it further and further. Then now we have things happening with ICE.

And there's recent news that ICE is running out of budget, they had a meeting about this where they pressed Kristi Noem about it and told them that they were almost out of budget so now they stealing from us as well.

You only see that in third worlds where they got dictators and they do what they want. Break the country and turn it into mass poverty.

You can line some of the world's worst economies and social attitudes to the United States to developing worlds and draw side by side comparisons pretty easily
swirlie · 31-35
@SatanBurger
The stuff we're talking about here will not suddenly go away after the 2028 Election for President, even if Democrats sweep the floor with Republicans in a landslide victory.

What Trump has done and is actively doing on behalf of the 26% of all eligible Americans who voted for him in 2024, will take decades to correct or to even change course on. Some things that were aimed directly at Canada will never be corrected and are now considered permanent Trump-induced damage, an entire century's worth of goodwill and relationship-building between our two countries now totally destroyed in a mere three months by juste one American man, but who is not actually a man. Real men don't think like MAGA Republicans think.

I've always enjoyed reading your posts because you always seem to be able to get to a much deeper aspect of an issue faster than most others here on SW, which is what I find most attractive about your writing style.
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@swirlie Don't get me wrong I'd love to see a few leftist victories or even democrats at this point. But we also still have extremism to combat. Even if Trump was out of office, that's a good thing but we do still have extremist beliefs that allow people like him to flourish. We could have a repeat if we don't honestly act on what's driving rising extremism.

Because half the people didn't vote and so basically a small minority has held our govt hostage.

But yeah it's going to take decades, I mean even if the US ever recovers. I don't even think we'll have the same standing we did before. I hope we can repair things but it's not going to be the same.

Especially since it's too early to look at consequences, we'll start feeling it here after awhile though.

I've always enjoyed reading your posts because you always seem to be able to get to a much deeper aspect of an issue faster than most others here on SW, which is what I find most attractive about your writing style.

I appreciate that, thanks 😊
