I just got blocked by someone I been talking to for awhile

They been knowing my views of advocating for due process for immigrants for quite awhile. I think people need to consider if I'm for them before being friends with me. I'm willing to accept differences but the way our govt is going about things is wrong period. I won't bow to anyone on that.

politics is the biggest reason people block.

I do not argue a whole lot about it, just occasional short comments, because it is a waste of time.

Politics is just entertainment, nothing to base real life decisions on. There is nothing to be learned from endless arguing about it.

It would be like if people got into a heated debate about just how much wood a woodchuck would chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood.

But since trump stopped world war three today apparently, I guess I can go out and enjoy the weather.

@HoeBag That woodchuck analogy is great lol.

@HoeBag Where it becomes more than that for me is when the political discussion being had is whether or not (fill in a group of humans here) are actual people with rights. Folks have some seriously awful hot takes on that question, claiming that stuff like same sex marriage or being allowed to have HRT is threatening Civilization As We Know It™.

@LordShadowfire
(fill in a group of humans here) are actual people with rights.

As we know, that argument started when the waves of anti-trans stuff started.
Of course it eventually spilled over into immigrants.

But NOW these GD MAGAts and some others say that about pretty much anyone. I think the latest is over how some Americans, who's families have been here for generations, are not "real" Americans.

They are just chomping at the bit to discredit people from being who they are.

And it is not just here in the USA. I have a friend on my other forum, she is from France, French AF, and someone on that forum told her she is not really French.

We had a good laugh over that. I was like, "Yeah Chris, do you even know what a baguette is?" All in jest. 😄

@HoeBag I always think i can reason with maga and then when it comes down to talking to them, it's pretty clear it isn't happening

@LordShadowfire Honestly I never knew there were a bunch of people who don't believe in rights or support the Constitution. Kind of scary and I'd like to know who's who so I don't talk to them instead of walking around keeping these thoughts bottled and I have to find out the hard way

I mean there's indicators like Maga hats and other things but more for every day people. Wish I knew how to tell
HoeBag · 46-50, F
@SatanBurger They are not a reasonable bunch.

But how can you tell if someone is MAGA? Typically they are older, the r3dneck type.
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@HoeBag wish I knew, there's certain things like passive far right views and of course, maga paraphernalia. I've had people seen nice on the outside but spout off far right wing stuff low key. I just believe what someone tells me the first time.

Other than that, you don't really know. That's what makes me uncomfortable.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@SatanBurger I find if I talk openly and honestly with them long enough, they start insulting me.
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@LordShadowfire Honestly I should try that, it would be a good test to see. Too many wear masks and you often don't learn until too late. Much better just to put it out there. I'll try that

@SatanBurger talking politics in real life though may not be a good idea.
I mean online people do it because they can tear each other a "new one" and no real harm.
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@HoeBag It's good to weed them out though because I like a lot of people at first and then stuff happens. I think you don't have to go around bringing it up first but it's good to stand your ground. Let's you know
