Most platforms preach "free speech" as long as it aligns with their narrative.

I think free speech has always been controlled to some degree. We notice it more now that we have social media sites like Facebook.

Ok, time for a Civics lesson. Let's talk about what freedom of speech actually protects.

The government can not censor you, arrest you, penalize you, etc for what you say. Even within that, there are limits. You can't endanger the public or incite violence with your speech. You are protected from the government.

Now let's talk about what isn't protected. Basically everything else. What you say can have consequences. If you lie at work or speak badly of your company, your company can fire you. That is not protected. If you say something your buddy doesn't like, he can stop being friends with you. That's not protected. If you go onto a social media site and violate their TOS, they can ban you for 30 days. That is not protected.

I'm not defending FB. They are horrible and I don't personally like them. So I don't use them. That is my choice. That being said, they have every right to set any policy they damn well choose and you have no rights to free speech on their platform. None.

The inceicent whining about FB on private social media is ignorant. Don't like them? Don't use them. Encourage others to not use them. But you have no right to say whatever you want and be free from real world consequences. You never have.

Facebook is so corrupt now and there is no such thing now as free speech - certainly not in UK.

Facebook is a private entity....they are free to censure anyone they want for any reason. So they do it. Why anyone would participate KNOWING how they react is beyond my understanding. I hope your friend wasn't surprised, a snake is always a snake.

I used to get suspended for simply quoting our founding fathers...

1- FB has had to adjust its internal policy on all things political …
the issue is not party related..
2- I had a post flagged on my IG account, saying that it was false…
i had reposted an image of a fake January 6th lego set… complete with the shaman guy..

3- we have free speech against the government, that does not include using a for profit business servers and network.
Facebook has a fiduciary responsibility to their shareholders. .. not those with political opinions.

This is a standard for all platforms, regardless of political views and affiliation. Each platform is created by a company that has rules. That company isn’t a government that must ensure rights that disregards their rules.
Most of the bans I’ve encountered on various platforms is due to hate speech, name calling, baiting, doxxing, etc.

If you say a man can't be a woman on Twitter they will suspend you untill you delete the tweet, I think you have to be someone noticable though, someone with three followers they would probably ignore.
