What’s special about Trader Joes?

I see several of you posting about this store and I’ve never been so I’m curious what is so wonderful about it?

I see that we have a store not too far from me so if you guys tell me about it, might make the two hour trek to go out there
Matt85 · 36-40, M
he sounds like a farmer
we dont have him over here (yet)
They have the best instant coffee I’ve ever tried. But there’s not one close enough to me that I go there regularly.

I like picking up some items there like tandoori naan, nuts, ice cream snacks, eggs and unique items in the freezer section.
Good quality, reasonably priced, some unique grocery items. Very nice customer service. I go there on occasion as the store isn’t too far away. But I certainly wouldn’t drive two hours just to shop there.

@OlderSometimesWiser I probably should say that the next time I’m out that way, I would stop in. I go there once every couple of months.
@Jenny1234 Yes, in that case definitely give it a try. 🙂
One item in particular that is popular is the 2 buck chuck which is a bottle of wine for 2 dollars. You can enter contests too. It has been awhile since I have been there, and I am sure the store has made many changes for the customer

They have some organic selections that other stores dont have. Like coffee and frozen corn... some great unique snacks and good produce. Some superior gluten free stuff at a more reasonable price. The cheese is high quality. Its like a specialty store but moderately priced. Def worth a trip to check out. Theyre kosher pickles are great. A little too salty but no funky chemicals unlike everyone else.

Eta- just noticed it's two hours away from you. Def bring lots of money and do something else fun in the area too. I wouldnt drive 2 hours to go there unless I lived in the country where it's fun to drive.

@Penny we tend to go across the border shopping every six weeks or so so I thought the next time I go I’ll check out Trader Joe’s.

An amazing store, has the things other stores don't, for reasonable prices.
Bumbles · 51-55, M
I go there all almost every day. Inexpensive. Interesting. Good staff. Better shoppers. None of the ugly parts of supermarkets.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@Bumbles not good, great staff! They are certainly trained well in customer relations.
Bumbles · 51-55, M
@samueltyler2 Yeah, I stand corrected.
come2gether · 51-55, M
Eh, I used to be an avid shopper there, but they used to be unique and be all natural for the entire store. They have changed over the years to now its just a few items that are in the better quality for a decent price category. I barely go anymore because I'd rather do all my grocery shopping in one stop.

Personally, I think many guys only go because there is usually a bunch of attractive women shopping there. Just an observation.
They have good cheese, yogurt, and bison meat, the prices are ok. Great chocolate, great coffee, lots of dried fruits like banana chips, the oatmeal and multi-grain hot cereal is good. I used to go quite often because they have a lot of stuff that's good for back packing food.
Haven't been in a couple years, but if you are in the area it's worth checking out, chances are you will find something you like.
I have been and really dont find anything special about them. Just another store.
iamnikki · 31-35, F
I've never been either. I've attempted to go but the one near me is always too crowded to park.
I'm not gonna sit and wait for a parking spot to be available at the grocery store.

Guess I'll never know🤷🏾‍♀️
@iamnikki Best bet is to go first thing in the morning.

@iamnikki Such great items..its worth it🙂
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
Cookie Butter
@Starcrossed Never had it myself, it was always sold out when my late ex fiancee and I went to our local when I lived in Vegas.
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
@NativePortlander1970 oh my gosh I LOVE it
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
@Starcrossed what is cookie butter?
fun4us2b · M
They have interesting items and decent pricing. Check their website...

I wouldn't go 2 hours, but if I was up that way it's worth stopping in...
robertsnj · 56-60, M
they have some cool stuff you can't find elsewhere but it is more of a every-once-in-a-while thing

kinda expensive just as an FYI
Adogslife · 61-69, M
It’s just ok. I heard the same hype here in New England. Personally, I thought it was highly overrated.
pancakeslam · 41-45, M
they are located a stones throw from me. they carry all the essentials and prices are reasonable and do not change. products are fresh rarely disappear or change locations. it's like a more friendly Aldi with more organic stuff. would you drive hours to go to Aldi? 🤪
pancakeslam · 41-45, M
@NativePortlander1970 better than Savemart type stores
@pancakeslam In iowa they're called Sav A Lot, which in the Portland area they're called Grocery Outlet.
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
@pancakeslam I’m not sure what Aldi is
Workerbee · 31-35, M
I wonder this as well never been there
They're a small discount boutique grocery store, good food, but I don't think driving two hours is worth it for them.
