Has anyone ever received a call from "Amazon customer service", asking you to confirm an order you never made?

I got one today! The guy said, "If you didn't place the order, you need to give us the name of your bank, so we can complete the process of cancelling it". I asked for his number, so I could call him back, after about three minutes of him refusing to give it to me, he finally did. It was actually an in state area code but when I called it, the message said, "This is a vacant phone number". Are these calls common? Does Amazon even call customer's?

Yeah, definitely a scam, Amazon will never call you out of the blue like that, unless you ask them to call you for some reason, like a for real lost order that you reported. If you didn't communicate with them first by email or call, they're not calling you...

Well done you did absolutely the right thing. They seek to panic people, to get their details.

Amazon will only call you if you specifically ask them to
WizardofOz · 26-30, M
@AbbySvenz That is kind of what I was thinking. Thanks.

@AbbySvenz Unless it is a man cause we know men don't ever call back. 😡

Be out there tryin to cheat on their wives actin like they are single but they get ONE nut and you don;t ever hear from them again.

It’s Amazon technical support, not a phone sex line @CestManan

Amazon states that it never calls you. There are scammers everywhere. If you didn’t call any business, then don’t hand over info.
I think if you slow that down for a second it could only make sense as a scam - they need you to give them banking details to cancel an order? that's ... pretty goofy and doesn't line up well. most scams and such will try to give a false sense of urgency ('you have to pay this bill in the next 15 minutes or we're cutting off your electricity!')
but yeah, scam. I've had an amazon call but it was only after I'd contacted them about something not working right. caution is usually good.

It is a scam Amazon never call and ask for details
WizardofOz · 26-30, M
@RuthHolmes67 I did try to find that out through Google but I couldn't find a definite answer. I figured it was a scam but was also worried about my identity was compromised.

@WizardofOz it sound like either a scam or they have rang the wrong person if they where evasive when you asked questions sounded like a scam you have you be careful and not fall for it and give personal bank details over the phone
WizardofOz · 26-30, M
@smiler2012 That's the thing, they knew my name, and my address. That's why I said I'd call them back, just in case someone stole my identity!
smiler2012 · 61-69
@WizardofOz 🤔it is a little worrying how they get your personal details e have had it with scammers before who have rang and cal;ed us by our name but i woulds check out your angle and stopping and checking bank payments
WizardofOz · 26-30, M
Thanks to all of you! I guess I knew it was a scam, I just wanted to know how many of you have had similar calls and if it is common for Amazon to call it's customers. I made my parents aware of it, because they are gullible, especially my mother.

My bf ordered some cheap moth traps from amazon and received an email and a phone call. Both were scams.
Anniedlr · 26-30, F
Hmm if you haven’t placed an order why would they need to know your bank details — clearly a scam call ☹️☹️☹️☹️

CestManan · 46-50, F

Like2play · M
Big big scam.
WizardofOz · 26-30, M
@Like2play I just told my parents to beware! My dad I'm not worried about but my mother would give them the key to their house! To say she's niave is an understatement!
Like2play · M
@WizardofOz Amazon has your email and will only use that
WizardofOz · 26-30, M
@Like2play Good to know.
DunningKruger · 61-69, M

MysteriousRose · 26-30, F
SCAM lol 😆 and you totally busted him.
Maturebate · 70-79, M
Don't fall for that scam.
Ontheroad · M
It's a scam.
They won’t ask you for details of your banking info. The only time I’ve received calls was from delivery people with a package, and they provided the order number, which I could check on the app.

100% a scam
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
Amazon will never call you, and if they do, they won't ask for your bank account. Ever.
CestManan · 46-50, F
@LordShadowfire That is true. One time they called me and asked what I was wearing.

So i described my "something comfortable" and I kept hearing some faint slapping noise, I wonder what that was.
Moneyonmymind · 31-35, M
Scams are on the rise
