Has anyone ever received a call from "Amazon customer service", asking you to confirm an order you never made?

I got one today! The guy said, "If you didn't place the order, you need to give us the name of your bank, so we can complete the process of cancelling it". I asked for his number, so I could call him back, after about three minutes of him refusing to give it to me, he finally did. It was actually an in state area code but when I called it, the message said, "This is a vacant phone number". Are these calls common? Does Amazon even call customer's?

I think if you slow that down for a second it could only make sense as a scam - they need you to give them banking details to cancel an order? that's ... pretty goofy and doesn't line up well. most scams and such will try to give a false sense of urgency ('you have to pay this bill in the next 15 minutes or we're cutting off your electricity!')
but yeah, scam. I've had an amazon call but it was only after I'd contacted them about something not working right. caution is usually good.
